I don't have much experience with wigs. D: Actually, I don't have much experience with cosplaying at all, but I'm out to change that.

Usually, yes. Sometimes I won't have time to completely sew something and I might need to buy something, but I sew about 90% percent of my costumes. (I love my sewing machine too much)
Like... I need to buy any fingered gloves. I can sew fingerless ones fine, but any other gloves kick my butt <_<; I had to buy pants for my Luke costume so I really didn't feel like sewing them... for Richter right now, I'm only buying the gloves and borrowing my mom's pants because Joann's didn't have enough of the material I used to sew the jacket D: Which makes me sad ;---;

I'd love to use our sewing machine, but I have to keep a low profile in this house when it comes to cosplay. My mom doesn't mind, but my brother thinks they're all freaks. D: The week before a summer con I'm usually up from around 12 AM to 7 AM every night, hand sewing everything. xD

I see what you mean about the collar. o_o I'd try taking really thin cardboard, like the kind that clothes come in, and sewing it inside the collar. Dunno how that'd turn out though.
