Description I HAD to. This has been driving me nuts. Everyone refers to Hyenas as canines. They are NOT. World of Warcraft has them labeled as hounds, canine clubs big and small here accept them: Just because they have some traits that are similar doesn't mean they are canines or are even closely related to canines! Their closest relative are felines, who they branched off from 36 million years ago in the Oligocene Epoch.

Sorry for the text on this stamp it's a bit hard to read but I'm through messing with it for now.

Genuses from carnivora listed:

Felidae (cats)
Nimravidae (Barbourofelis, Hoplophoneus, and other false saber toothed cats, extinct line today.)
Viverridae (genets,binturong, civets)
Herpestidae (all species of mongoose)

Absolutely. Why Hyenadont was competing with beardogs right here in America at the same time to prove it!

The maned wolf is kinda the same way. They're not actually wolves, but they still are canids. Their closest relatives alive are very short and have stubby legs. They don't look anything alike XD

Bush dogs? For some reason I thought they were closest to vulpines (foxes)

Yeah, the bush dog. And nope ^^ The maned wolf is the only living creature left in its species crysocyon just like the bush dog is the only one left in its species spethos but they're related. But that smirk says you knew that already

I didn't believe you, so I looked it up. That's insane! They're related to cats! However, upon reading, I discovered that they have much more in common with dogs. Not sure how they ended up classified as "Feliforms," when they have more traits in common with the dog than they do the cat.

Anyway, thanks for educating me, now I know

It's by genetics I believe. Just like Madagascar Fossas have a lot in common with cats but they aren't at all! I'm glad it brought something to light for you, this was my intent. ^_^
