Description This is a gift piece for in repayment of her kindness. It is a depiction of her wolf character. I decided to go with something a little less friendly-looking than what might be expected- this is what I see in my head when I imagine a werewolf.

It's sculpted from Super Sculpey and painted with Citadel acrylics. The base is a random bit of wood I had lying about, shaped, stained and clearcoated to suit me.

The eyes are molded from glow-in-the-dark Fimo clay, though the effect came out far less pronounced than I had hoped.

A collection of progress shots showing the build-up can be found in scraps- [link] .

Thanks to for the beautiful photos and collage of the finished piece. I'm horrible with a camera.

The character is (c) Tianator.

I love this It's amazing, the glowy eyes add a great effect.

Just out of curiousity, how'd you do the feathers?

Sorry for the long delay. I've been away for a little while.

The feathers were done separate from the rest. There is a thin metal wire that I formed into the rough shape of the feathers, with some sticking out. I basically just baked clay onto it in the rough shape of the feathers, then used a small file and some sandpaper to get the final shape. The whole thing was then glued to the side by sticking the extra wire into a small hole I drilled there, filled with glue.

Great work. The coat coloration is very realistic. I am guessing you put some sort of frame underneath the clay since Sculptey really hates standing up like that on its own (at least if my memory of working with the stuff is worth anything).

Just about all the sculptures here have a mix of thick aluminum wire and thin stainless steel wire as an armature base. The only exceptions are the two skulls.

I'm planning something bigger that will require brass rods for support. Stay tuned!

Don't use brass, its a very uncooperative metal, mostly because it work hardened really fast. Try bamboo skewers or heavy gauge (4,6 or 8 gauge to be precise...*points to self" I work a lot of wire so knowing gauge is important) steel or copper. Hobby Lobby also sells steel (they call it tin but its tinned steel) or copper tubes too. Wood also survives the cooking process of Sculptey clay.

I'll have to give that a shot. Thanks for the tips.

The glowing eye were a good idea. It makes the wolf look just as menacing in the dark.
And I love the detail. I wish I could make something this cool from clay.

I'm working on an improvement for the next piece like this- aiming to use red LEDs embedded just under the surface of the clay for eyes, running wires inside the body to a battery in the base. If it works out, you'll get to see it soon!

It practically jumps off the screen! A lot of character in this fine, little beast. Question: Did the glow in the dark eyes bake at the same time as the super sculpey?

Pretty much the effect I was going for- so thank you!

I actually baked the eyes at a lower temperature beforehand (about 200F) to firm them up enough for me to work with. I find it annoying trying to sculpt heads around eyes that were still soft themselves. The glow in the dark clay also scorches really easily, which can create more problems.

Thanks! I'm going to do some similar stuff soon and will try something different to get more glow out of them. We'll see how it works out.
