The Guardian of Lilliputian Steps, Mondo Mole.Okay, this is the one I never liked. When you face him, Paula's so underleveled she practically never survives. I learned later you can just paralyze him, but that seems kind of cheap. After my first playthrough as a kid I actually usually skipped him and went to Threed and came back later.

A lot of people see it as blood, but the color on the sprite is actually more of straight orange than the color I ended up using here. I think it's supposed to be open to interpretation. They wouldn't just put a monster dripping blood in a nintendo game of that era, but they made something ambiguous so you could see it that way if you want.

Yeah, just had another look at the original sprite again and can confirm it is more orange than red. I guess with how it blends with the other colours and it looking "drippy", it can easily be interpreted as blood. I mean, it doesn't look out of place with the character pose and design (not to mention, Mother 2/Earthbound has some incredibly dark themes in the game) after all.
