Description Was dealing with a bit of an art block the past weeks, so I decided to try out a different style in order to flex my artistic muscles. I really admire the painterly-sketch style of *littleulvar , so I followed their painting tutorial
littleulvar.deviantart.com/art… for a quick sketch of Gaius.

Overall, it went really fast and was fun despite the hiccup when I shrunk the image to half-size to make a WIP picture, then forgot to un-shrink it when I finished painting... Then I had to go back, enlarge it, and do a ton of touch-up painting to get the details sharp again.

Is it just me or do Gaius' muscles get bigger with each new picture drawn of him? Not that it's a bad thing. He lives in a rough world gotta prepare yourself for it somehow! Anywho, some creative whatnot...

1.) The lighting of the painting denotes a very regal setting. This is something I've come to expect for images of Gaius considering that to me he conducts himself in a very heroic and admirable manner albeit he's still a goofball but hey, what great hero isn't a little silly sometimes? The lighting evokes contemplative feelings as if the viewer should take a step back and really consider what they are looking at, which I believe is a good thing.

2.) I'm not much of a color expert considering I have virtually no artistic talent whatsoever but here are my thoughts, the earth tones are well suited for the overall mood of the picture. The contrast between the soft browns in opposition to the black and royal blue make for an appealing visual presentation.

3.) The brush strokes of this painting draw all of the attention to Gaius' eyes. They are the most prominent feature in this image and I think that's great! He's got very deep cerulean eyes and while the entirety of the painting evokes calmness and a sense of contemplation the vibrancy of his eyes in addition to the way all of the attention in this image seems to point toward them denotes that he's got some burdens buried in those azure orbs.

4.) Coupled with the deep look to his eyes he's smirking and tilting his head slightly. To me that says he's been through a few things lately and he's having some internal struggles but is dealing with them in stride.

I'm no art critic but overall, I would give this painting out of because it is truly a thoughtful and well rendered piece of work.

Looks great.

Scale can be a pain. I always do a "Save As" for my WIPs thus making them a separate file. I learned this after flatting a few original files losing over 30 layers of work.
