Never thought you'd see her again, eh?So a certain project of mine I've been working on since my Hatena days is turning 10 this year. As part of the festivities, I'm bringing back all of the Neo-Mobian postergirls and posterboys of the Findo, Daegon, Vixa, and Wolfstorm.
Complete with redesigns to introduce them to all the folks I've befriended since their debuts that haven't seen the concept of Neo-Mobians before.
For a refresher on what a Neo-Mobian is (not only for those who need a recap of the concept, but to also introduce the concept to people new to them)
Neo-Mobians are a form of life unique to the B☆RS The Cat Chronicle, first debuting in the Gen 2 Storyline. They were born from the ashes of countless wiped out lifeforms in the universe (Mobius' included) after an invasion-level mass extinction event in the year 3270 caused by aliens known as the Mettoids; this cataclysmic invasion merged hundreds of planets into an unnatural wasteland of a Superplanet where greenery environments were a luxury to find, ecosystems like volcanic caves functioned in irrational ways, and any resources necessary to stay alive were a rarity.
When the events of Gen 2 began in the year 8270, only three Neo-Mobian societies existed; the Vixa (a purely female fox civilization), the Daegon (a purely Dragon civilization), and the Wolfstorm (a purely male wolf civilization, who would make their presence known when it came time to undo the damage the Mettoids had done to the merged planets)
The Findo (Aqua's civilization) are purely female dolphin Neo-Mobians that are a byproduct of the birth of Neo Mobius in the year 8280; which in itself is Planet Mobius restored to its natural, lush state as a result of the damage the Mettouds did being undone...but in such a way that the flora and fauna made the planet it once was unrecognizably alien than Mobius already was prior. While the planet itself was restored in the year 8280, time on Neo Mobius was treated as if the Findo had always lived there. This, in turn, ended up making the Neo-Mobian dolphin population's ages an unexplainable anomaly when they were encountered on this new paradise.
Neo-Mobians look like the average fair Mobian you're accustomed at a glance, but being born from the ashes of hundreds of did planets' species gave the Vixa, Daegon, Wolfstorm and Findo their own civilization-specific strange genetic properties to set them apart from their Mobian counterparts.
Since this piece is about Aqua, we'll focus on the oddities of Neo-Mobian Dolphins, as they have some of the odder ones for a seemingly water-bound society:
- As aforementioned, the Findo are always born female. This seems like a critical flaw to their society's survival, but some Findo are naturally selected to become male (similar to the many kinds of Wrass fish) at random so the civilization can continue to thrive. Much like a Wrass the change is permanent. This is very different from how the Vixa and Wolfstorm have a symbiotic cultural way to reproduce.
- Unlike their Dolphins predecessors and other sea life, dolphin Neo-Mobians have a very alien-esque organ anatomy that allows them to thrive on both the land and under the water with zero fear of losing oxygen. The other three Neo-Mobians also have a very alien-esque organ anatomy, but nowhere near as far removed from the Mobian counterpart species they replaced as those who make up the Findo civilization.
- It is extremely rare, but some Neo-Mobian dolphins can experience a permanent evolution into a bipedial, selkie-like Neo-Mobian dolphin. (Complete with the selkie's finlike ears) It is described by Findo culture as an odd evolution phenomenon where natural beauty and clothing become one to create something even more naturally beautiful, known only as Final Metamorphosis. The criteria is extremely specific, and any Findo who becomes male loses the ability to go through Final Metamorphosis if they were also born in a way that genetically meets the criteria.
As for the kind of people the Findo are? The Findo are highly intelligent and fierce warriors, with very open-minded spiritual beliefs and an unshakeably strong sense of honor. It is a life all Neo-Mobian dolphins are raised into. Those not made out for combat early into their life usually find other ways to contribute to their society, and those who become male retire from the warrior's life to prioritize the just as important role of the preservation of the Findo civilization. They are also highly technologically advanced; the most advanced of the four Neo-Mobian societies, in fact. Their trademark weapon is a sophisticated combination of trident, spear and technology whose blade is generated by hydrothermal plasma, and their entire underwater city has a complex technological system built into it that shares the Neo-Mobian Dolphin ability to breathe on land and underwater without fear to vistors while they're anywhere that is considered part of their city.
The Neo-Mobians aren't exactly a perfect society either. They're more along the lines of just being a drastic improvement over the Mobian society that came thousands of years before them; an improvement that came from the combined efforts on the Superplanet to survive. That said, friction between them is actually quite common. In the case of the Findo, they are known to not get along well with the Daegon at all ever since all four Neo-Mobian societies first began to coexist in the year 8280.
