Description

A brutish beast that haunts many children stories, a monster that is used to warn the young about the dangers of the wilds and misbehaving. If only the kids knew that the adults were just as fearful of these creatures, as they are very real and just as dangerous as the tales claim. Barbed Ogres (or just Ogres), are hulking monsters that dwell in dark, abandoned places, often lurking in caves, ruins, ghost towns or overgrown forests. They hide within these shelters, either waiting for nightfall or for prey to arrive in search of cover from the elements. There are many horrid tales of fools wandering near unknown caves or tangled brush, only to have long barbed arms lash out and seize them in a shredding grip. Ogres use their elongated forelimbs to snag prey, sinking their long claws in and pulling them back towards a waiting maw. Those who try to fight back will be met with their spiny hide, tearing flesh and muscle as the horrid beast strikes and swipes with bloodstained spikes. Fleeing from the beast is advised, as their lumbering forms and stubby legs makes walking rather slow. However, when motivated, they may use their longs arms to swing their bodies forward, bounding across the land in awkward leaps. Keeping your distance is not a guarantee of safety, as Ogres have a nasty trick up their sleeves. For prey that refuses to get close, they turn to the empty sockets they use to listen for food. With a tightening of their bodies and clenching of certain muscles, they can fire off a tight spray of searing Blood with remarkable precision and range. This thin beam of Blood burns through flesh and sends a shock through the muscles, often dropping prey to the ground. These few seconds of pain and disorientation is enough time for the Ogre to come bounding over and finish them off. Gluttonous they are, devouring what they can in one sitting, often armor, clothes and all. What scraps remain may be speared onto one of their many spikes and saved for later.

Due to their voracious appetite and territorial nature, Ogres have long been hunted and driven out of more civilized areas. Outer villages may still deal with them from time to time, but most of the danger would come from traveling through the wilds or taking roads that aren't well maintained or guarded. However, with war consuming the land and all able bodies being sent into that ceaseless meat grinder, there have been less and less hunters to ward away the Ogres. As towns fall to ruin and the wilds begin to claim civilization, the Ogres grow in numbers and boldness. The children of the higher end towns may soon find their story time monsters drooling at their doorsteps...

If I got a setting based all around fluid, then one certain blood spraying reptile has to make an appearance!
