Description Between the Black Kingdom and White kingdom wages a never ending war. A constant battle that seeks to exterminate one of these ruling lands. While each kingdom has a single king or queen(?), they have many soldiers who march onto the field of battle, fighting for their rulers and bringing destruction to the kingdom that threatens them. These warriors fight for the Black Kingdom, seeking to topple the White King and end His opposing reign.

Pawns - Pawns are small, stitched creatures that do most of the manual labor in the kingdom. They serve as butlers, workers and practically anything simple and minor, as they are the most plentiful. Though they have hooks for hands, they are quite dexterous and can do a wide variety of tasks. Small and a bit shy, they usually move in short dashes and darts, rushing forward and abruptly stopping to view their surroundings. They are used in the field of battle as well, but they are not great attackers. Their main method of attack is lunging at a nearby enemy with their hooks, and that is about it. Though weak, their strength comes from their numbers, as they can swarm an entire battlefield. Large amounts of them can surround foes and can be used to block off areas. Sometimes they are used for bait, luring in an attacker so another stronger soldier can take them out. While simple and weak, Pawns have an insidious design built into them. While living in their own kingdoms, Pawns do not seem like much, just meager butlers and servants. One could easily ignore them and see them as worthless, which is what they count on. Certain Pawns have a secret goal programmed into them, and that is to sneak into the opposing kingdom. Their small stature and minor threat allows them to slip by defenses and notice, and they use that to reach their target. If a Pawn is successful at invading the opposing kingdom, the energy of the land will trigger a bizarre transformation. Their heads will swell and split, birthing another soldier from their stitched skulls. The fetus that emerges will quickly grow into a certain class warrior, and will begin its attack on the kingdom from within. With this, it is advised that all kingdoms keep an eye on these diminutive creatures, as they can cause real havoc if ignored. Especially if one of them births Her...

Knights - Swift and deadly creatures, Knights are guards and protectors of the kingdom. Though their bodies appear thin and lanky, they are extremely fast and agile. Their speed allows them to zip past obstacles and carve through foes who are not keeping a close eye on them. Their scythe limbs are used to hook victims and gut them with a single swipe. While some may try to pin them down on the battlefield, Knights are not easily stopped, as they vault over attackers or evade incoming attacks to slip past foes. Though they are one of many soldiers who fight in the never ending war, Knights seem to be obsessed with being proper and showing respect. Knights are the always to first to bow to their royalty, and practically scramble to do so the second they spot their King or Queen. When fighting, they follow some unknown "code" or "rules of combat" that dictate their actions. Not many are sure what all the rules are, but they are essential for preserving their "honor." Not many pay mind to these "rules" as they do not stop the Knights from being efficient killers, but one can easily notice their disgust and disapproval when they witness a Rook trample an enemy.

Rooks - Rooks are enormous slab-headed engines of destruction, smashing every obstacle that stands in their path. They are the demolitionists and muscle of the kingdom, using their heads as hammers and rams. In normal life, they act as powerful workers who aid in building great structures and walls, or knocking them down. In battle, Rooks barrel straight towards a foe, plowing through anything in its way. It can charge on two legs or run on all fours, ramming through entire battalions and clearing a path for fellow warriors. Its clawed arms can be used for combat, but Rooks prefer swinging their rock heads and bashing foes to death. In its bloodlust, a Rook will furiously pound its chest before charging, or when celebrating a kill. When idle, Rooks have a tendency to scratch their stony heads, eagerly waiting for a new opponent to crush.

Bishops - Bizarrely elegant and strangely proper, Bishops hold a crucial role in their kingdoms. Though the King and Queen rule over all, there are only one of each of them. They cannot be in two places at once, and they cannot truly oversee everything that occurs in their kingdoms. The Bishops aid them with this by acting as superior officers and leaders whenever the King or Queen are not present. They direct the others in tasks, projects and strategy, making sure everything is following the rulings of the royalty. Though they command many workers, Bishops rarely ever do any manual labor themselves. When not giving orders, Bishops seem to just stand around and do nothing. They just hold their tendrils together and wait. Even during work projects, once a Bishop has given its commands, it will just stand there idle. On the battlefield, though, Bishops are not so inactive. Boneless and quick, Bishops practically teleport across the battlefield, slithering through soldiers to position themselves for a crucial strike. While they do not possess the great weaponry of a Knight or Rook, Bishops are no lesser. Their venomous barbs can quickly strike down a foe with a single thrust, and they often zip in and out of danger to cut down a target. They are also capable of psionic blasts that can cripple enemies from afar, usually used on Rooks, as they are too large and armored to be affected by their meager blades. While all other warriors in the war are coordinated, Bishops take such strategy to another level. They often communicate with their kind in order to organize strikes and keep certain territories in control. This is almost to the point of obsession, as Bishops will designate what areas and territories each will keep an eye over, and they will never stray from this. No one and no thing will cause them to overstep their boundaries and enter the area of another Bishop. Even if an enemy is standing inches away from their realm, a Bishop will never take them out. They are convinced that such a violation of strategy and agreement will overturn everything that they have organized. If one Bishop were to ignore all of this, even for a moment, then anarchy and chaos would surely follow. Everyone has their place and position, and none should deviate from such a course. If there wasn't such rules, then why shouldn't Knights just run where ever they want? Why shouldn't Rooks just throw Pawns across the battlefields? Why shouldn't they all just drop everything and run around in circles like a pack of heathens? Just because they are in a war doesn't mean they should throw away logic and decency. If so, then what are they even fighting for?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

A long time ago, I was goofing around with the idea of chess monsters, but never really went anywhere with it. Recently, Syweb2 brought my attention back to these guys, and its about darn time I actually finish drawing them. Here are the minor soldiers of these chess monsters, adding in Bishops and Knights. The King and Queen have yet to follow, but I am still finishing up their designs. I also went with the Black coloration, as White seemed too bland.

that looks really awesome! the Rooks are my favorites, there's something i really like the giant stone slabs for their heads, though i must say that i think the Pawns are kind of cute. At least, when they're not giving birth from their heads.
and the Bishops look really awesome themselves, too! i love the purple stuff going down their heads and torsos, and the exposed brain.

Thanks! The Rooks are definitely my favorite as well. Them and the pawns were the very first I ever designed, and I was so happy with them I pretty much forgot about the rest of the pieces.

Glad to hear the Bishops look good! They were tougher than the others to design.

i say that their designs hold up really well!

i can imagine, seeing as i don't think many others have tried drawing and working out this concept before.
