Description I imagine Deinonychus as a highly opportunistic predator that would’ve attempted small prey whenever possible, much like modern wild canids and felids. Here it crashes into shallow water to snatch an eel. A bit of Deinonychus Unagi to complement my Deinonychus Sushi.

Another graphite sketch on computer paper that began as a glorified doodle at a conference. I know, most of my uploads lately have been pencil drawings, but never fear, I have a big new paleoart painting to share at the end of the month!

Well done...........this is not a perfect drawing BUT I congratulate you for spening a lot of time. I see a lot of potential here...pay attention to light and shade.

At over 100lb isn’t Deinonychus too large to specialize on very small prey? All extant canids and felids similar to Deinonychus in size routinely eat animals over 1/4 their own mass.

The whole point of the illustration is that it would have generalized, NOT that it specialized on small prey. I think it's very unlikely that it would have specialized on small prey as well. But >100 lb generalist predators in the modern world—such as lions and bears—routinely take small rodents if they're available, especially if they have young to feed.

GAH! I just love your art so much! You really capture dinosaurs as animals, in some ways better than any paleoartist I know.
Where do you find your inspiration and references? I'm especially curious after this piece.

Beautiful. I really like the perspective and bubbles. Respect for all that work with stones - that cost a lot of patience or it didn't?
