This was in my wip folder for a whole year. @_@ Finally sat down and finished it.More like nearly started from scratch as I wanted to try a different coloring style. The grayscale + overlay colors and um... kinda happy with the result?
It isn`t as bad as I expected it to turn out but it isn`t exactly as good I wanted it to be either. So we have Zulah and a very badly drawn Quatzalcoatl and bunch of spirits going up.
Just wanted to do a more realistic style pic of her.

Fireball brush for the...um spirit thingies but I can`t find the brush`s creator. >_<;
About 3-4 days in total maybe.

I really admire this piece (have for awhile now) ^_^ How you've managed to get Zulah to sit in the environment is really well done. 
One thing though..what's happening under the layers of feathers on the snake? It looks great don't get me wrong...it's just concentrating on it - It's like the wing or feathers are holding onto or extruding light, is that right? Also! Reflections, picking this out just case it's been forgotten, though you may be able to get away without them here 'cause it's magic pool 
At any rate, this is super, you've brought together a lot of different tools and made something that works. From head piece adorned in metal and feathers to shimmering water - all look great.

There's so much rich detail in this that it's hard to know where to start. Are those Monarch wings in the background, behind & to the side of her ? I know that monarch butterflies were considered the embodiment of deceased souls in Mayan / Aztec culture. Wow !

Oh, I didn`t know that about monarch butterflies! Any similarities are accidental.
It is a pretty neat thing though! I should do my homework better next time I draw complicated outfits.

I read that in a book that was essentially a photographic essay about Dias de Las Muertos. It's more colorful than just floating around as a nebulous, misty phantom.

I did draw a quick pic of her recently during open canvas session with two buddies :'D [link]
but yeah...darn headdress so hard to draw or I end up remaking it and yeah. For feathers I suggest trying the smudge tool. It is a life savior.

Quatz looks amazing to me, actually, the wing stood out most, its fantastic. Zulah looks so very powerful and majestic... far more godly looking than I am used to +__+ She really looks quite realistic to me just wow!

Okay, I'm impressed that you had the guts to even go back and and finish this one...considering what the WIP looked like before. But it was so worth it - you did a freaking awesome job with it ^^
The anatomy is amazing...especially the eyes, but really all of it. And the smooth prettiness of her headdress...
.....and I think I kinda want a Quetzalcoatl of my own for a pet now... >>

I think I only kicked myself to finish it cause of the whole "hey I should use this technique instead". It`s grayscale + overlay colors. Colors are usually a breeze that way since you don`t worry about picking the right shades but the grayscale is... pain. Such a long long pain. Since its all about placing the shades right aaaand that ain`t as easy for me as it sounds.
Also discovered some nifty tricks for decorations and such. Poke me to share`em with ya next time we chat. ++

Maybe more vibrant than I aimed for...
I`m eager to try this style again but mi god it takes time. Maybe I should chose less...complicated character for next time.
