Description This is a render of a 3D model of the Moon rising over a mountainous island in the ocean. I made it using Blender and rendered it using the Cycles renderer.

I created the landscape using Blender's landscape mesh add-on and gave it a grey diffuse shader. I then placed a flat plain slightly above the bottom of the landscape mesh and gave it a modified glass texture with a noise texture bump map to give it the appearance of water, and then scaled the plain out so it extended far beyond the landscape mesh's ends. I then took the ends of the landscape mesh and extended them in edit mode to match up with the length and width of the water plain. I then added a circle object into the distance and made it more circular by subdividing it and making the points more circular by using Shift+Alt+S, I then made a face of the circle using the points of the circle. I then marked all of the edges of the circle and exported a UV map over a photograph of the Moon taken by NASA and added an emission shader to it. I added a background shader to the sky with a low strength Preetham sky texture. I then copied the Moon object and rotated it around the landscape, scaled it up a bit, and decreased its emission in order to add a bit more lighting to the scene. I then rendered it at a size of 1920x1080px and at 4500 samples.
