First off you've made a portrait and you must have captured the likeness because I knew it was JON Snow. So it was a success. Congratulations.

I have some thoughts that could improve your technique though. First off some of your edges are too soft and so the face doesn't look very solid. When working think of every plane in terms of it's relation to the light. Does this face the light? Is it perpendiculr to the light? Does it face away from the light? That will tell you what value to make it with some confidence. The nostril for instance really fades. Where that bulge of flesh protrudes and curves back towards the check there should be a pretty clear shadow as less and less light can reach the form. Does the side of the nose face the light? No so make that clearly a different value from the top of the nose so that the viewer clearly knows it doesn't face the light. The lack of edges makes it hard to tell where the cheeks end and the muzzle of the mouth begins. I would expect the shadows around the eye to be much sharper as well.

Black tangly hair can sometimes be a nightmare to paint unless there's a super strong light source. For figuring out how to approach hair, I would look at sculptures of hair and then return to your reference and see how you can clump together forms. Then you can more easily paint the values based on it's orientation to the light and distance from the light.

In a lighting situation like this shadows should be more saturated (more chroma) than the lit areas and sometimes very saturated where it turns from light to darkness as the light is really piercing the skin there and bouncing around and emphasizing all that blood right under the skin. It's VERY subtle but there are also different color zones to the face based off whats under that skin. So where you're more boney like on the forehead tends to be more yellow and nice fleshy bits like the end of the nose and nostrils tend to be more red. Stubble on the face tends to give a a really subtle purplish color. All kinds of weird color stuff happens between the lower eyelid and zygomatic bone.

I hope I was of some help.
