Description This piece was done for   December challenge where we had to make a piece in the style of a favorite and still living artist who inspires or influences us. Or create a character from that artist and render it in our own style. Version 1 is rendered in Dave Rapoza's Starveil style. This version I rendered in a New Wave style since lately I've been playing with that look alot.

Now, the challenge is supposed to be about living artists who influence and inspire you, but just for information's sake, here is some info about New Wave art. One of New Wave's most iconic artists is Patrick Nagel who's art was highly sought after in the late 70s and throughout the 80s. The important thing about this style in particular is economy of lines. Most of the information should be left for the viewer's mind to complete and you want to describe form with the fewest lines possible. Also, when you are drawing a subject, where and how you place the lines will aid in describing that subjects essence. Similar to how gestural drawing is supposed to capture the life of a subject and rendering detail is not as important. Colors are generally flat with only ocasional shading used to help separate shapes. Another trick to describe curves and form is using elements within the piece instead of lines. For example, if a character is wearing a necklace, you could curve the necklace as it goes down the neck onto the chest, this way you describe form, without having to draw lines to describe the neck, clavicle bone and chest. I did something similar here with the shoulder armor and cloth around the face. And used fewer lines to describe the folds as compared to version 1 of this piece.

Anyways, Cyborg is a character who belongs to Dave Rapoza, who is an awesome artist by the way, check'im out!
