Good shading practice! Expressions are always hard - I struggle bunches with them.

I have a quick question - when you drew this, did you first draw the outline, and then fill them in by shading them in?

I first drew the outlines and then shaded them in yes.

One problem is that it's something I can see - a bit like one of those color-within-the-lines book pictures. You don't want your outlines and your shading to be like they come from two different versions of the same pictures. They should be one whole picture.

Did the same with the owl, but I'll try to lessen it. You got any tips for that?

Honestly, I'm not sure. This is where digital and traditional go their separate ways! But give this a try - instead of first drawing the outline and then shading, play around with doing both at the same time.

I don't think you screwed it up, I think it's funny to see how the emotion on her face is different form the original ^^
The surprised look I think looks great

I know, but sometimes an artist, especially one in practise (and yet no one is ever truly done learning) can make mistakes, and then learn how to aptly deal with them ^^
So next time, perhaps you can try the same drawing, and try to improve the emotion.
