The western ringtail possum (Pseudocheirus occidentalis) or Ngwayir is a possum found in a small area of Western Australia. Its population seems to be declining, probably due to habitat loss and the predation of introduced species. The IUCN has rated it as "Critically Endangered".This skull is macerated, together with all the other bones of the skeleton. I hope I can build the whole skeleton before my internship in Australia ends. Skull length: 7 cmSkull height: 3 cmSkull width: 4 cm

Such long nasal bones! And their teeth are very different from other possoms! Are they herbivores?

The nasal bones are indeed very long! I have a smaller western ringtail possum skull and the nasal bones even seem longer on that one!The teeth are similar to the other possum skulls I've had so far, but yeah they are herbivores. What makes their diet different from brushtail possums, is that they eat their own scats to digest the nutrients a second time.
