... So it's an Avatar fan-art, but at the same time... not. I had an interesting thought that went something like: "Hey, I wonder what would have happened to all the other main characters of Avatar if Aang had never been found?" Certainly it would be a grim future for all of the nations, but how specifically would the other characters we know and love have fared?

Well here is part 1 of my series based on this thought. Hope you like!

"Eventually the Fire Nation would tire of the resistance offered by the South Water Tribe fleet and the Northern Tribe, and launched a genocidal campaign on all of the Water Tribes. When the final blow came for the Southern Water Tribe the leader of it's small force of warriors, by now a man in his early 20s, found himself helpless in the face of a massive approaching warfleet. Swearing ancestral vows older than the tribe itself, this warrior sought death on the battlefield rather than abandoning the tribe. He and his tiny force was able to inflict horrible casualties on the invaders using their knowledge of the bitter terrain of their icey home, and fashioned ingenious traps and mines that sank 5 of the Fire Navy's finest Ships-of-the-Line.

However a death in battle was denied to him when in the final stages of combat his sister, herself the only Waterbender capable of fighting alongside the defenders, trapped him in a snowdrft with her final breath in the hopes of saving her brother's life. When Sokka finally pulled himself free from the merciful trap, it was all over. He cursed the tactics of guerilla resistance, feeling that his inability to fight and kill face-to-face like the Fire Nation did led to the defeat. Fashioning a crude steam ship from the wreckage of the battle he sailed North alone, vowing destruction.

It is a fairly common myth among Fire Nation outposts in the Southern Earth Kingdom to beware the "Grey-faced Barbarian", supposedly a blood-crazed warrior Spirit who kills all in his path without compunction. His rage and pain are limitless, and at night patrols listen warily for an agonising inhuman howl that announces their approaching doom. Making his home among animals and taking neither rest nor prisoners, the Barbarian is a relentless hunter of Fire Soldiers."
