Description April 22, 2009, 6:15AM MST. (Close-up view)

The clouds parted just enough for me to see the event...and what a lucky thing that was. Though still slightly obscured, the view was beautiful.

Venus shines with 17% of its surface lit, while the moon, a crescent, drifts towards it. By 6:18AM, the moon touches venus, and within seconds, the Morning Star disappears. Look closely at the moon, you can see its cratered surface fairly clearly.

These events are called occultations, and it was a gorgeous sight...one which will not occur again until Oct 11, 2029. I'll be 44 years old the next time I see one of these.

I have uploaded a video of the actual event to youtube, you can watch the moon cover up Venus here: [link] (Remember to press HQ)

Wonderful catch, Experiment720! "Fortune favors the prepared", which you obviously were.

I regret to say, tho, that I don't see craters, but only some vague texture.

My species symbol is inspired by this sort of event.

Nice shot. There was one time the Moon & Venus looked exactly like Kimbas symbol but the camera I had cannot take photos like this here. :/

I've already faved both of your occultation photos! Since I used my binoculars the whole time, I did not get to photograph the special event. So, I do thank you so much for capturing the wonderful moment and sharing it with us! !

I saw this this morning actually, except it was against a completely black sky. My dad woke me up in time to see it and I'm really glad he did. Amazing.
