Lovely coloring!

The shading of the skin and hair are very soft.

Giving her a innocent look.

Very nice.

Shading can be kinda annoying sometimes. XD I always end up shading too light.

Anyway, enough about me. Good start. I love her eyes. :>

I think you should try shading a bit darker. Also don't be afraid of using more than one shade/colour.

Open layers and just play with the shading, try different things, and don't be afraid of messing up, after all it's on a different layer... And if you mess up and it doesn't look good, you can always rub it all out and start again. I've done that a few times. XD

Good luck.

i like the coloring its really nice ^^ o would have put a little more detail into the hair and eyes though. and shaded the ruffles on the dress a little more perhaps. but other than that its great!

Nice, not bad.The colors are well blend and those eyes are extremely cute XD.

One thing your missing tho is a consistent use of tones.Remember that most of the time in anime the hair is what most excels on details.Don't be afraid to show intensity on highlights and shading.Try different styles, such as cell shading and soft cell.Other thing i see is the dress.Depending on the type of material you wanna show on it,determines how you are gonna shade/highlight it. For example, leather clothes are dark extremely shiny, while others as polyester and silk have more bright tones. This is just my opinion tho lol i am still an amateur artist

Other than that good job.Just keep practicing and persevere best of lucks

experimental-thing In reply to sasukesharingan007 [2009-11-06 22:07:48 +0000 UTC]

no no you said a good thing about leather and that.
I tried to work on my shading style on my newest picture but i dont know if i sucedeed.
=/
But still the hair is such a big mess for me.
I will try to practice more cell shading , because i will get all lost in soft shading >.<

sasukesharingan007 In reply to experimental-thing [2009-11-06 22:18:41 +0000 UTC]

lol the hair is actually the hardest to get used to,since is the one thing that most stands out in anime. It just takes practice, but you will get use to it

There's not much difference between between soft cell and cell shading.Only thing that differs is their blending techniques and tones. There are some helpful tutorials flying around here on DA, you could take a look at some ^_^

Hi. I like this pic. I think a darker background would make the character pop more.

There's a line that needs to be erased where the dress overlaps her right arm. (Unless the dress is supposed to be transparent at the bottom.) She might be able use a little more color on her face. She looks a bit washed out around her nose, like a police officer is shining a flashlight in her face!

i didn't know how to shade it since the light is coming from left. T.T
im not really good with that.

The coloring is nice better then i can do haha the eyes stand out really well the only problem i think i see is that it just feels to plain maybe next time you could try spiing it up with a shiny background or something of that nature then again its just a suggestion hope it helped

I think U just need highlight in Ur hair color. Its too blend IMO. The BG is simple but nice. if U add more dark purple maybe it will make the character appear more than it now. Soft BG with soft character make the character blending with the BG and not shown well
did amazing jobs ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

experimental-thing In reply to Shirei-Shou [2009-11-03 08:18:18 +0000 UTC]

Okay, thank you for the advice for bacground.

Shirei-Shou In reply to experimental-thing [2009-11-03 11:35:52 +0000 UTC]

gppr [2009-11-03 02:06:14 +0000 UTC]

I like the soft colouring on this. I think you need to darken it just a little bit on the back of the arms and her dress. It seems to me that the hair should be a little darker on the right.

Something you can play with is textures. Add a very subtle one to the fabric of her dress maybe. Or to the background. It is good that the bg does not compete with the figure, but a subtle, light (even white) texture could work to enrich it wihtout bringing too much attention to it. (particularly, if you texture her dress).

Hope this helps.

Well... one tip I think you should try out is adding color to the shadows and lights. You do this on a new layer and use a smooth brush (airbruch or something of the genre in low density) paintig over the shadows with a color. Than you pla with the blend mode and the opacity of the layer.

In this image I would a light blue on the shadows, it may make the image fell softer.

As for backgrounds... I donΒ΄t have any particular tips... but I recomend you taking a look at gallery for inspiration.

The overall coloring seems pretty good, but you should darker it a little bit more. For the hair, it's a bit different, but I can't shade it well myself, so I'd recommand you to look for a nice tutorial. Since it's hair, there should be kind of "tuft of hair" or something.

But I think you're on the good way ! I love this soft coloring !

Yeah, I feel the same, but I can't really help you. I'm looking too at other artists works, and try to picture how they managed to get such effects, but I mostly practise by myself.

Keep trying !

GreenSillyMonkey [2009-11-02 20:19:33 +0000 UTC]

This looks really good! one thing... You have added a lot of white into her skin and clothes. This blends a bit to much into the white parts of the background.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

experimental-thing In reply to GreenSillyMonkey [2009-11-03 08:21:21 +0000 UTC]

? I had to add that white parts because i had to have higlights. Maybe i should have made BG darker huh?

Necromancer-Staff [2009-11-02 20:00:48 +0000 UTC]

First, the colours are very smooth-looking, which is good, but the shadows seem to jump too quickly from dark to light [or light to dark if you prefer]. The colours should fade gradually from the darker shade easing into the lighter shade, otherwise it's what some of us artists like to call 'smudge tool abuse'.

Other than that, though, it looks pretty good to me. I'munna have to fave this.

The coloring is nice, it's very soft and calming.
The light source is mostly correct, but the only place that it looks a little off is in the hair on the right side. It looks like you staded shading it, and then the further center you got, the less you shaded. For the rest of the picture I get the feeling the right side of the hair should be a little darker.

Hope it helps!

I like the shading of ur character, and the colors are nice.
Idk if u wanted to add more contrast to the shading of the hands, but I think you should.

The background is simple and nice, which contributes towards your entire picture.
