Firstly, thank you very much for taking the time to critique this shot, I really do appreciate it
And about the top section, I ummed and ahhed about that for quite a while, trying numerous different crops, but for me it was only in its uncropped state that it all sort of worked together, despite the fact that yes, there are clipped highlights in the top.

I know - that is always the problem with cropping, and there is no right or wrong.
As long as you experiment, you'll never be a "me too" photographer, and that is most important IMHO.

This is really something!
I think often as photographers we strive to get a creative uniqueness within our images and you my friend have certainly done that here! There are plenty of waterscapes here on DA so it takes something very special to break out of that mold, and you have done it!
It has such a wonderful abstract look and feel about it, with how the light is reflecting within the image, those golds are just outstanding. Love the top portion of the shot as teh water is spraying, really a nice touch of drama with that.
The color and just how vivid this is works well, very well.... and the angle and composition works just as well, too.
I don't know if I would change anything in this, and honestly when I first saw it in my message center, I thought it was feathers or something.

This picture is incredibly beautiful. I love how it's almost like the gold is just painted onto the waves, like every stroke of it was placed there by mother nature. (:

Fairly easy really, just needed tricky timing and lighting to come together. Basically its a wave crashing up onto some rocks at the beach, its really early and so the light is really golden, and yeah, just used my telephoto to zoom in and about a 1/4 second exposure to capture it

Beautiful. It looks so much like sparks, it's a truly unique photo. Nice capture. ^^ It's like fire in the golden sun. ^^ But if you touched the sparks, it'd be cool and refreshing. Dangerous but beautiful, either way. ^^
