The tribute to Empress Wu Zetian, is inspired by the historical figure, who is the only woman in the history of China to assume the title of Empress Regnant. Traditional Chinese order of succession did not allow a woman to ascend the throne, but Wu Zetian was determined to quash the opposition and broke all precedents when she took the throne and founded her own dynasty in 690, called the Zhou. She ruled portentously under the name Sacred and Divine Empress Regnant.
