I've never understood the rationale behind cabless road switcher units like this. An EMD F7B I can understand. It's a streamlined unit. A cabless trailing unit looks good. But a cabless GP60? Or any other road switcher, for that matter....
The entire idea of the road switcher concept was to offer the loco crew a decent view of the tracks in either direction regardless of which direction the loco happened to be going. I'm pretty sure that neither EMD nor GE offered their units as cabless units, rather the railroads themselves ordered them that way.
IMHO, having a cab in every unit makes for easier unit assignments. Any unit can be assigned to any train, even solo.

Thank you very much! Actually they are cabless GP60s or GP60Bs...In England are cabless locos referred to as slugs? In the US slugs usually have prime movers removed but retain traction motors for increased tractive effort...

You're most welcome!

And I think it might be a lost-in-translation moment, to be honest.
The Slugs' in the UK were a batch of Class 37s' with added ballest for greater adhesion.

The only cabless engines we had were the Class 13 Shunter pairs of A "Master" 08 and a cabless, permanently coupled "Slave". More details are here: [link]

Cool looking units. In the US there were many cow and calf sets from the 40s-50s. Luckily I got shots of some before they were scrapped [link] They still use slugs for hump work though and the IHB has powerboosters (roadslugs) [link]

Yes, it is. I felt that a link directly to the full size image would serve better than a link to a gallery of thumbnails. The Orange IHB slug appears at the top, the cow and calf is on the next page.

Why download when I can link. I'm trying to help fellow railfans who might not know what we know.

They were parked there for a few minutes. They didn't go past where I got the shot. I think they were using headroom for switching at Corwith or heading into the diesel shop.
