So intteresting that Burlington Northern and its old locomotives have been pulling Metra trains! At least I think it's interesting. Now Metra has it's locomotives as I've seen, including F40PH, F40PHM-2, MPI MP36PH, and now more recently the F59PH if I'm not mistaken.

That's METRA's roster now, I liked the old RTA painted E units, they were still running a few when I started taking pictures (1986-7) I was lucky to catch three.

You sure were fortunate! I was a 1-year-old from and in Gary, Indiana when these were taken. The only passenger train I can clearly remember seeing is the Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad, although it is possible I did see some Metras, including electric, and the Els but I cannot remember. I didn't notice El or Amtrak trains until 1989 when my grandmother, who now works for Amtrak, told me about them, as I was visiting from Germany where I lived from 1988 to 90.
I did notice in more recent years that some Metra cars had BNSF labels on them. Kind of interesting. BNSF, if I'm not mistaken, probably owns some of Metra's cars and other equipment, but to be sure I better look more into that.
That reminds me that I made some fictional passenger rail cars with Union Pacific labels on them, only the railroad had a different name, Cochise Railway, and I modeled it after Metra and hope to make and share artwork of it some day soon. It's an imaginary Southern Arizona passenger rail that's supposed to serve Cochise County, including Sierra Vista, where I lived before. It's also supposed to serve Tucson, and I'm planning to do artwork of passenger rail between Tucson and Sierra Vista and is supposed to use some of Union Pacific's existing tracks from Tucson to Benson. I'll tell you more about that later.
I wish I had some train pictures from my childhood, especially of the South Shore from the 1980s and 90s, especially of the crossings back when the crossing gates on the South Shore were wooden wishbone gates. I feel like I'm the only one who remembers them! And pictures of a crossing that used to exist in Strullendorf, Germany near where the train station there is. That's how we knew trains were coming and we used to ride the trains between Strullendorf and Bamberg, where my stepfather was stationed. I miss riding trains now.

Another nice late Cold War photograph in technicolor splendor. More Boxcars and single flatbeds. Little to no Double Decker Container Trucks for the Freeway and Unregulated Global Trade lobbies.

Yep, if only we audited the pentagon long ago. A job working on the railroad or the dock would be allot more secure and we would have a greater number of manufacturing suppliers that gave out products that benefit humanity over the destructive waste of militarism and mindless consumption.

I hear you! PA's were the bomb! I'm just glad BN/Metra kept these as long as they did. Now some are at the IRM.

When we lived in the city proper my grandmother used to commute on the Burlington to get to her job working for the Penn Central. When we moved to the suburbs we were closer to the C&NW. We used to pick my grandmother up at the train station every night when she came home from work. They ran those E Units also...on the left track.

We used to have quite similar looking trains which were called "dog face trains" [link] I guess back in the 60s it was the summit of design!

It was the classic Railroad passenger train locomotive carbody design.

I think it's from the rebuild M-K did with 645 power assemblies in 1973.
