Description 11/14/10: A believe a Ford from the early 70s. I remember these from all those 70s cop shows. Can't tell the exact make/model/year... I do think I need a "Car Spotting Guide" because I'm pretty hip with locomotives!

'71-ish Ford LTD convertible. Ford's full-size luxo-liner of the period. My dad had a '78 LTD 2-door. First car I ever drove, at 15.

And I'll tell ya...whoever said it wasn't an LTD....those wheel covers tell a different tale. They could be non-original, but I'm saying it's an LTD just on the overall look, badges aside.

I would say LTD too, saw enough of then in 70s cop shows!

True. Actually, most notably "Diamonds Are Forever" and "Barnaby Jones."

It's a 1971 Ford Galaxie convertible. I don't think it's an LTD since it doesn't have the badging for one.

I looked at the grille and though "LTD", so I would probably have given him a bum steer. Thanks for giving the right answer and preventing me from giving the wrong one.

They all shared the same basic body shell and the difference was in the trim level, available options and grille treatments along with the badging.

Ah.

There is (or was) a green coupe version somewhere in Kingston.

I also saw a Country Squire with a grille like that outside a house for a few weeks. I couldn't afford to buy it, and eventually it was gone.

You're welcome. My uncle had a '71 Ford LTD two door so I'm kind of familiar with them.

Pretty mundane, really. They were the bread and butter of the Ford line.

Journeyman cars, and jobs, what would we do without them?

I used to have a similar 71 Ford Galaxie. What a tank that was! I need to round up a pic of that one.

I love those old 70s cars. My own first one was a '73 Cat. On my DA ID pic.

Nice! I've always like Pontiacs. Yeah I really need to gather pics of mine, I have a 65 Galaxie now but it runs on propane, LoL.

My favorite was a (maybe) '68 Catalina my father bought when I was real young. When he died my mother replaced it with the '73. I wish I still had that car!

I love the 65-70 Catalinas and Bonivelles. Some of the best styling for a full size.

Off the bat i'd say it's a '71 LTD, but i don't remember them having a split bumper like that. Sweet find, though a colour like leftover taxi doesn't fit a car like that...

Well it was parked at a garage off Ogden in Lyons after all.

I'm sure they wouldn't notice it was missing untill i'd already run it through the closest Maaco...

As awful as it sounds, i like bigger cars with sharper angles like that in shades of brown! I'm a child of the 80's, so brown kinda carries a stigma among those of use that had to live with dreary coloured cars during our formative years. But i love warm browns on those old boats! Especially with a lot of metallic content in the paint, really makes the lines pop. Could probably go with a dark red, but that tends to hide the lines and make the car look too big and dark. A warm brown would lend a bit of class to a car that was sort of an upscale midsize Ford, and give it some dignity. Couple that with a brown or saddle top, and maybe a dark parchment interior and it would be a stunner

I remember LTDs from 70s cop shows and they always seemed black. I don't know what's up with that yellow though... At least you have good taste!
