Nutaaq Island, a medium sized island due north of the Frost Dragons, was where Blueberry had come to call home. In the bowels of the capital city, Olikpok City, more specifically. It was an easy life, given his stature. Alongside him, his ever-faithful feline companion,Snowball. Without them, he’d swear he’d be lost- Although it’s often the opposite. The maze of the city was hard to navigate without a Tokota’s loyal nose leading the way, or if you’re lucky enough to be born with the blessing of a photographic memory. Whilst laying, plooted, two streets behind Main Street, Blueberry took a heavy yawn. The taste of acrid carbon and freezing air bit at his tongue, and he opted to lick his feet. Snowball walked over his back, rubbing roughly against Blueberry’s coarse mane. It was a day like any other, lazy and boring.
A high pitched wail broke through the normalcy, sparks shooting through the neon lights buzzing in every corner of the city. With two booming thuds, and a sudden lack of that signature buzz, the city fell silent and dark. Blueberry scrambled to his feet, ears folding back and eyes widening in terror. Jumped back, tail puffing to match. What in the world just happened?! Blueberry scrambled through the alleys, trying to find his way to Main Street. If any power remained, it would be there- But a bright zip caught his eye. Something, or rather someone, was producing vibrant neon lights, flitting past the corners. Blueberry rushed at it, barking loudly.
Who are you?! What did you do!
Sprinted behind, yowling for Blueberry to slow down or stop. Bright, neon fish floated in the air as Blueberry scrambled through the alleyways. He hesitated slightly, looking up at them. A neon, sparkling blue fin tuna gazed down at him, and suddenly charged at the Toki with a wide, gaping maw. Blueberry yelped, ducking and sprinting further into the maze. The lights danced around him, sparks jutting from light sockets as they blew. A cackling, hoarse laughter echoed around the steaming, dark streets. Blueberry barked to the sky, trying to grab the attention of whoever was tormenting him, Stop there! Who are you!
No response would come, of course, but above him, glowing eyes watched. Now, you would hear stories whispered of a massive leopard seal tormenting the city as it grew, but you’d never think you’d actually see it. Blueberry came face to face with a small cat, skidding to a halt. It was oddly colored, with a dramatically short dark splotched pelt. Glowing eyes seemed to bore into Blueberry’s skull, and he leapt forward with bared teeth. A flash of brilliant blues and purples, and the feline was gone, his teeth sunk into a rotting fish. The Toki gagged, throwing it against a nearby wall. Pumiaq was tormenting him, and he’d show the little cat who was boss!
His feline companion yowled in fear, trying to convince the Toki to stop. Unlike its larger companion, Snowball could see the true form of Pumiaq. The huge, beastly form of a leopard seal, glowing neon smoke and sparks firing out from its body. Every look Blueberry took, the seal-spotted feline was just out of reach, running across the dead, black wires above. Blueberry barked and yapped, trying to scare the prankster from above, but as he chased, the fish began to fill the streets again. They seemed to follow Pumiaq, laughing and mocking Blueberry’s frightful chase. He never could figure out what happened in the end, as he woke to his companion kneading his side. He was back at his usual haunt, curled up as if he’d been napping the whole time. Was it a dream?

The biodome was brightly lit this afternoon, and plenty warm. The temperate climate of the far right dome was a favorite of Blueberry’s, as it provided a perfect napping spot. Snowball sat upon his back, kneading and purring as the Toki lounged. It was a lovely life, truly. He took a heavy yawn, drawing the filtered, somewhat stale air deep into his lungs. How lovely it was to breathe here, rather than the acrid carbon of the alleyways. Sleep came heavy to his head, as if dragging him below the arctic sea beyond the city.
Awoken only by the pounding in his skull, Blueberry took a hearty stretch. He felt more limber than before, stretching out further than he thought possible. His tail arched, tickling his back. Weird, it had never reached that far before… He blinked repeatedly up at the bright artificial lights above, straining his vision and feeling as if he was abruptly blinded. Blueberry shook his head, trying to clear his mind. “Hey, you okay?” A voice startled him. It was soft yet scratchy. It had a strange accent, twisting and twirling in his mind. It felt like home- It sounded like- His eyes lifted, and he found himself staring at Snowball’s chest.
“Huuuuuu-hhhh?” Blueberry raised his head slightly, looking up to his companion’s inquisitive blue eyes. “When did you get so.. big?” His tail puffed, unsure of what he was experiencing. Since when did Snowball talk? While he could read the feline’s body language just fine, he’d never heard Tokonian words come from the white cat- Except it wasn’t.
“Better question, since when were you so short?” Snowball snipped back, walking around its friend. “You’re looking quite odd, little fellow, maybe you should look in a puddle.”
And a puddle he seeked, sprinting as fast as his very short legs could manage. A puddle was where he made the startling realization- He was different. Very different. Broad, blue ears met his gaze, alongside a stout, short muzzle with a dainty small nose. “What in Aippaq’s name?!” He yowled, gazing into the puddle with increasing panic. He’d been turned into a feline himself! No wonder he could abruptly understand Snowball! His companion was speaking whatever strange dialect cats spoke in, and in his transformation, he began to speak it as well. His limbs felt even shorter than they did in his canid form, much harder to reach. Frankly, he felt himself appearing quite silly.
A hoarse, barking laugh was heard above, and glowing odd eyes peeked back at him through his reflection. The very reason he woke this way was back to tormenting him. Only a day ago, he swore, the power of the city crashed and Pumiaq tormented his very being. His throat still ached from the repeated shouts he called out while chasing the mottled feline. He spun, screeching in anger and fear at the currently floating spirit. “What did you DO?”
“Hee-hee-hee!” Pumaiq simply responded in kind, twisting in the air and mocking. As Blueberry gazed at the spirit, his eyes refocused, no longer seeing the feline as that- A hulkingly massive leopard seal twisted in its place. Fear grappled in his belly, adrenaline biting through his veins. He ran, and never had he ran as fast as he had at that moment- or so he thought.
Claws gripped against his side, sharp and pointed, and he lurched awake. Snowball was holding onto his side, ears in ‘airplane mode’ and eyes wide in panic. Clods of dirt scattered behind Blueberry’s paws, scratched up from the earth. Was it another dream? What in the world was that? For a moment, he swore he could hear a voice trickling through the hum of the air, What was that for!? Was… Was that Snowball?
