That's just how badass he is XDRewatching Avatar, and came across the Tales of Ba Sing Sei episode, thought it was hilarious and sweet when it came to Iroh's episode.
But omg, I almost cried when those girls were being mean to Toph! QAQ Just the look on her face, I felt so bad for her!

once joking about burning the same city he currently lives in (until korra) down and with his history of being a general I can see iroh thinking a mugger to be poultry compared to the things he's seen as well as even questioning his motives, his great grand father started a war "wanting to spread peace to the four nations" and he likely knew the whole story, notice how when he was captured by earth benders he chose to use tricks to buy time and leave clues so Zuko would find him.
