I should have mentioned it, I have seen one Buff like that but I thought it was part of the maintenance inspection, I did not realise they could fold down conventionally for hangarage, I thought it was part of a maintenance procedure.

The B-52's I was around were 'hangared' in a structure called a "Nose Dock" that had a sealed hole in the door so the empannage was outside. It was used for tankers as well.

Ah.
I ended up asking one of the guys at work and he said it was a pain to fold the tail of a B-52 lol

I imagine so. It is a big surface to have to crane up and down.
