Actually in Louisville the Dems always win. We're the lonely blue dot in a very RED state. John and I want to buy a run down two-wheel trailer, set it up just over the border in OHIO and vote from Ohio. At least that way we vote in a state that matters. Which sucks. The electoral college needs to go by way of the DODO when only a handful of swing states really get to vote for a president. The Framers never wanted the electoral college. Now we see why. Decisions are left to just a few of the many.

I've bookmarked To Tame A Viking to read as soon as I finish the story I'm in the middle of. I have to know the context of that cuteness.

When she started describing Tino's house and street in "Louisville" I went... "Hey, this sounds like *MY* HOUSE* in St. Matthews!" (it's a neighborhood on the east side of Louisville, about 5 minutes from downtown.) When she said Yes... and she was mentioning/describing my freaking street of little red brick ranch houses, I "squeeed". It turns out she used to live in my general neighborhood before. I love when you find random fangirls by accident (or fate) who share the same interests in this huge world and they once lived in this small little pocket of Louisville too.

Wow, friends for fifteen years? That's awesome!
I don't really care much for politics xD I'm adaptable so I just roll with whatever comes. If it is Statehood, then yay. If it is Independence, then I'll work with it

Well considering your current state of being a U.S. territory you get all the crap without any say in elections. At least with Statehood you gain a voice in what happens to your future and a share in more economic stability to start. No one likes politics, I have a certification in Political Science and it's bad for my blood pressure, but it's a necessary evil to know deeply and completely since it affects your life and livelihood at the most basic core levels. (Your home, life, family, job, living situations and personal rights.) Never leave it up to someone else to decide your fate. *hugs* You learn that the older you get. I never paid attention much in my 20s and now in my 40s I regret not voting more informed because my political apathy cost me in many, many ways. Including, but not limited to, a loss of about $100,000 in retirement funds when an unregulated Wall Street collapsed and all my retirement portfolios vanished in a puff of greedy broker induced smoke. All my retirements funds, my 401K and investment IRAs *poof* gone overnight. Thank you George W. Bush! I have nothing and haven't yet been able to start saving again. I'm still trying to recover and keep my head above water. Twenty years worth of savings taken from you with no recourse or security to get it back. That's the rude awakening I had about politics. It's insidious and you need to watch it like a hawk before it eats you like prey.

The key is to ignore people being insane and tune them out. always just do your own research, read articles and policies and form your own opinion. Because people are always uninformed idiots spewing sound bytes like sheep for the most part.

No problem. People love to try and push their interpretation of what they think about politics onto you, or what they heard from someone, who may have heard it/saw it on some whackjob mud-slinging TV commercial. The easiest way to deal with the crappy side of life (dealing with rent, job, school, family and politics). Always trust yourself, going in fully armed with knowledge first. Just look at the facts and they are easy to find. Remember, Only you know what is best for you. *hugs*

Mhm!
As for our Statehood... It would be nice, I guess, but I don't think it will happen. We make a lot of money for the US and, from what I've been told, being a state would make the US lose a lot of money.
What do you think?

fablespinner In reply to AkaruiTenshi [2012-11-11 08:51:06 +0000 UTC]
The economy is a difficult thing to predict. The commerce between the two entities would continue without change. There's always a dip in revenue for any change-over that generally does not last long. The gain however would be equal voice in decisions that govern Puerto Rico. Right now you're under US "Rule" as a territory but have no say in elections. Statehood would had representatives and senators from Puerto Rico into Congress and you as a citizen would gain the right to vote for the President therefore having a say in the policies that affect you. A transitional shift of revenue I think would be a small price to pay for a voice in legislation.

AkaruiTenshi In reply to fablespinner [2012-11-11 14:24:23 +0000 UTC]
That is true... It would be much more beneficial in the future....
Another fear and/or controversy here is the concept of our culture. Most of us are afraid of losing our culture as Puerto Ricans in change for the American culture should we gain Statehood. This also includes the loss of Spanish as our first language and native tongue.

Okay~!
A jΓbaro ("hee-bah-roh") is a poor country man and a jΓbara ("hee-bah-rah") is poor country woman - jibarito/jibarita ("hee-bah-ree-toh"/"hee-bah-ree-tah") are diminutive words used for either the children of the jΓbaros or as a sort of endearment. People had the misconception that they were stupid, but in reality, they really clever.Β
JΓbaros usually worked in fields and were paid very little. Their families were usually very large, for women in those times were, uh, baby producers.Β
In their day to day life, jΓbaros wore no shoes. The men were dresses in khaki pants that were rolled up above the ankle, a white button up shirt tied to the side, a belt made of rope or a strip of cloth, and a straw hat called a "pava". Women wore ankle length, floral patterned skirts and off the shoulder, white blouses that had a single ruffle at the collar. When going to church or to a fancy event, they wore the best clothes they had and the only or the best pair of shoes they had.
Dressing as a jΓbaro or jΓbara is typical of children during "el DΓa del Descubrimiento de Puerto Rico". It is a way to represent our culture. Personally, I loved dressing up as a jibarita. The skirt is very comfortable and awesome for dancing. As an added accessory, we wore a fake or real hibiscus in our hair. Good times

Oh that's neat. You'll see a lot of Cinco de Mayo celebrations in heavily Mexican populations in the southwest of the country. They proudly hold onto culture from Mexico even if they are now Americans. We have Oktoberfest in German populations in the Midwest. Your culture and traditions are safe.

I'm glad you like it. (I also own that Keychain Tino is holding! LOL! It was my reference). And thanks for the details so I could understand Berwald in that "moment" (you know which one I mean.) I figured Tino is looking at "A viking out of time" off camera. and chewing his lip as not to laugh at something dorky (and adorable in his dorkiness) the "newbie" is doing out of sight.

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty jealous of your keychain.
