Description

Finished the pose for my Ichthyovenator laosensis model for Shapeways. In 1/40 scale and soon to be up in 1/35 as well, to see if there's interest. I like how alert he looks.

It was claimed to be split, yet seems more likely that it was affected by taphonomy.

Taphonomy is whatever happens to a fossil in between being covered by sediment and being unearthed. So tectonic movement, weathering, breaking and so on.

Where's the two sails, its most iconic feature? Or is there new research that disproves the double sail?

FabrizioDeRossi In reply to AcroSauroTaurus [2017-07-10 21:00:42 +0000 UTC]

The double sail has always been controversial, seeing as how the fossils look a lot like they were just been under a lot of taphonomical change. A.k.a.: parts are just broken off. Therefore I went with the conservative route, unless there shows up a second specimen displaying the feature. Trust me, I liked it for the double sail initially.

It's considered by most these days to be a pathology.

Ah, ok. So it just looked kinda like a Suchomimus or Irritator then, well thats science, always changing.
