So, this is a "realistic" retake on this race. Ironically, I thought that the original race had some creepy out-of-place human features, so I wanted to make it more palatable. AHAHAHAHAHA.

Nurilith ("Nurilith" is both the plural and singular form) are essentially sentient, "tauric" larva. Unlike insects, Nurilith reproduce as larva, and the vast majority never reach adult form. They are resilient to injury due to their bulk and redundant organs, and multiple differently-specialized stomachs mean they can eat nearly anything organic. Large glands produce a viscous substance that has both adhesive and caustic properties; Nurilith can spit this acid over short distances. However, the race is ponderously slow compared to most humanoid races due to their massive girth and short legs, and their distance and color vision are lacking (though they see fairly well in low light.) Nurilith are equally suited to both surface and subterranean life, but are poorly suited to extremely cold or extremely dry environments.
The typical Nurilith mindset is greedy and individualistic. Though they are perfectly willing to live with others - even those of other races - they tend to view such arrangements only in terms of how it can personally benefit themselves. Many tend to have a mercantile bent to them, preferring to build up wealth with what they view as the least amount of effort. Loan sharking, conning, and smuggling are common, and as such Lith are poorly trusted by many. Successful individuals often have very opulent, hedonistic lifestyles, especially in regards to food - which takes into account the breadth of Lith gustatory capability. A meal might include imported balsa wood soaked in honey and vanilla, or wax-dipped balls of rose petals, rice and salmon eggs.
In settlements where Nurilith are the predominant or only race, about 80 to 90% of the population is held thrall by economic exploitation, and the economic elite hold most of the political power. There is a small class of respected-but-not-influential "reproductives" who are responsible for procreation, and the remainder are military individuals of a medium social status - though Liths often view those who willingly subject themselves to combat as strange. On the level of civilization, Nurilith typically form city-states, as wealthy individuals are ill-disposed to accept a centralized authority.
As for the adult-form Liths, they are almost a legend. It is not known what exactly triggers metamorphosis, and in all of the very small handful of reported cases the individual was pursuing a nomadic or mercenary lifestyle, far outside Nurilith civilization. Accounts say the adult form is solely carnivorous, possesses a much more agile form with some sort of bladed claws, and is capable of short flight, but details are hazy. Only a very few individuals see this state as desirous, however.
When Nurilith do adventure into the more dangerous parts of the world, it is usually motivated by potential wealth or power. Of course, as with any mortal race, exceptions do exist, and some Nurilith will grow to enjoy camaraderie or even the thrills of conquering the unknown.
