Description Unlike my character Signe I can easily be happy about something - in this case about how the dress swings when I turn around.

This is my Larp Character's winter dress. It is very warm, but also very heavy. Signe wears one simple dress beneath everything, then another white dress with a huge skirt (9,6m seam) made from cotton and yet another dress made from black wool. These parts of the costume alone weigh 3,5kg. x.x
It always takes me about 15min to get dressed. Without any hairdo.

This picture was taken before the con really started. Walking up and down the stairs, having to pick your skirt up all the time is surprisingly exhausting.

Everything is entirely hand-made. I really love this dress even though I wouldn't want to wear it every day.
It is inspired by medieval art and fashion, but I cannot claim to have made it with high historic accuracy.

I hope you enjoy it!

Thank you!

I've been told it looks a bit like russian traditional clothing. xD

I was going to suggest such, yes xD
But I was unsure if I should

It looks very Christianized, Tsarist era Russian

I am envious you have such a thing going on
There are some locals around here that do similar LARPing stuff
But they live in a farther away city
But their stuff is mostly Prussian recreation because well... I live in what was once Konigsberg

I definitely would not mind getting into stuff like this
Since I have been getting a lot into fantasy and medieval literature

So, Signe is your character - tell us more of her!

Can you show me some pictures of such clothing?
The similarity is rather coincidental, I want to compare it myself now.

Wooow you live in Kaliningrad?? I never knew! Prussian history is so very interesting. I can't decide whether I want to visit the city or not. I love cities in which you can just feel how much history they have. But I also hate the typical sowiet Plattenbaus. I was in Magdeburg last weekend - wonderful churches and buildings, but also lots of these things...I found that really depressing. I am used to quarters like these: www.stuck-und-dielen.de/Altbau… (well less shiny, though xD)

So in Kaliningrad they are probably doing reenactment? It's similar to larp, but without the fantasy aspect and mostly rather strict concerning the time they play in.
In a description for a larp convention you would read something like "low fantasy" (which means you shouldn't play things like demons or other super-mighty creatures. And: "Fäntelalter" which is a mixture of "Mittelalter" (medieval age) and "Fantasy". Most fantasy plays in a pseudo-medieval setting - and larp does, too.
The great Expedition is an organisation of international Larpers who go to the Drachenfest in Germany and help them integrate. www.facebook.com/pages/The-Gra…

I will probably post more pictures of her costumes and explain some more there.

I am having trouble finding a decent picture
But it greatly resembles a "Apostolnik" - which is similar to the hijab for Muslim women
But was worn by Christian Russian Orthodox Nuns during the Tsarist era
What makes it even more of a coincidence
Was that it was give to novice, entry-level nuns
And it also kind of resembles what next comes after a nun gains the level of priestess-like status and wears an Epanokalimavkion - often worn with a kalimavkion - those funny, circular hats
It also resembles a Klobuk, worn often in Eastern Catholic churches and the Romanian Orthodox sect
The Orthodox Nun/Monk Ekaterina Konstaninova is one of those earliest pictures portraying such garb

Yes, been in Kaliningrad since the end of 2011 now
It is beautiful
You see so much left over from the last century of Germany up until 45, the Prussian heritage is incredibly strong
But then you see the Soviet complexes and remember that this is one of the most heavily militarized parts of Russia
It is weird actually
As I participated in the Victory Day parade along with other Reservists a couple weeks ago
And it makes me wonder, just how many conquering boots have marched this land - holding their flag

And yes, they do a lot of reenactments and they have a hard on for historical accuracy
And oooh, Drachenfest is interesting!

Please do~

Holy shit this comment is old.

BUT since then I've been looking at a lot of pictures of russian and caucasian traditional dresses and wow, they are beautiful. They really were very inspirational for my character, but also in general, especially the head dresses. Blessed and cursed be pinterest, I spend so much time on this site finding awesome clothing there - like this: g.io.ua/img_aa/large/0516/51/0…

Some places are so drenched with history. Maybe a reason why I don't find the USA very tempting. The city I live in now is almost a thousand years old. I love historical buildings, they often are full of artistic skill enduring times and wars, skillfully cleaned and repaired by loving hands.

Ancient in fact, lol

I really love Russian history and the significance of our historical clothing
I've been in East Ukraine for a long time now - I have also developed a considerable taste for traditional Ukrainian wear and what not as well
You can really feel the depth of the history in the world around us in this part of Europe

I hope I get the same impression when I move to Copenhagen, which will be soon
As much as I love the post-Tsar, post-Soviet aesthetic
After seeing such abstract beauty ruined by war I'm ready to just settle somewhere with higher standards of living

I will be definitely visiting my homelands, Germany included - one day
The history of it all still draws me so fondly close

Beautiful dress  I especially love the emblem on the hat and the book/handbag thing chained to the belt

The emblem is the symbol of the fictional religion she follows.

The book is something I made myself entirely from wood, leather, yarn and paper.
It contains prayers, stories of saints and her diary.

Thank you for your comment!
