It does come with some perks, like being able to customize profiles, galleries, and journals more. If you're looking for constructive criticism, you're more likely to get it if you're a core member because you can use the 'ask for critiques' option on deviant ions. (More people like to use the widget than just say it in a comment for some reason. 
With profile customization, it makes it easier to make the page more readable for viewers, and easier to navigate. I love customization, so I like to have the option available. ^.^
But there are downsides. You can only buy monthly or yearly, which is very limiting.
All it really is, is the ability to customize way more, create polls your watchers can see, more likely to get constructive criticism, and to submit more than one deviation at a time/schedule deviations. It's helpful, but really a luxury and not a necessity.

Ohhh I see. Awhile back I probably wouldn't have cared much for customization since I wasn't very active on here, but now I'm gonna be way more active and would love to have my profile customized more (instead of the millions of stamps I'm using)
The constructive criticism would be interesting, if I was making more fan art and original art and stuff, but right now I'm just gonna be releasing concepts for the game I'm making so I don't think constructive criticisms are needed for that. When I get more time to draw more I'll definetely get a core membership

Oh, it's a 2D sidescrolling platformer. I got an idea to make a game a year ago, and since then I've just been planning it all out. Thing is I don't have any money to hire people, so I have to do everything myself, but the music. I found a friend who wants to make music for it. Otherwise, I'm ok with needing to do everything, except animating. I don't time the time, patience or skill to animate sprites. I'm trying really hard to find someone who's willing to animate either for free, or wait until after the Indiegogo campaign I launch, so I can pay them them, as long as they're willing to make a bit of animation before hand so I can make a trailer for the campaign. But finding someone who meets these requirements is proving to be quite a task :/
Other then that, I got the story fully planned out and some characters designed. Now I'm just trying to make the core mechanics unique and engaging

Well, the game is called Island of the Forgotten. It takes place in a fantasy ancient Japan. With pirates! XD The main character, Jane, is a pirate girl. Long story short the ship she's on gets badly damaged and so the crew has to take an emergency stop at an uncharted island. the captain forbids it, seeming to know something about this mysterious island, but knows that if they don't get to shore they'll sink. So they dock at the island, the crew splits in two. One group works on fixing the ship, the other group goes to explore the island. however, this seemingly deserted island may not be so deserted after all 
"This island holds secrets both light and dark...So you think you can uncover them? Well my child, let me ask you something... Is your heart strong enough to remain pure? Or will you fall to the darkness...Like she did"
I'm afraid that's all I can say right now, don't want to spoil much. But I'm planning a very deep and compelling story, with heart warming and heart breaking moments.
And packed with thrilling gameplay and catchy music
And I'm using Game Maker 8 for it. I really like this engine, it's very good for beginner programmers like me. Only problem is I can't afford the pro version, so I'm stuck using the light version, which has limited features :/

Game Maker is really good for beginners, since I'm not that familiar with programming and stuff it's great to use a simple program that still works wonders. Though i do need to get pro, the lite version doesn't having a feature for putting a save function in the game :/
If i can just get a sprite animator I'm fine with my team as it is now, but the more people on the team the better. I'll welcome anyone who's willing to help, though I won't be able to pay them, at least until the Indiegogo campaign...
If you know anyone who would be interested in helping, feel free to mention this to them. I'm always looking for more help, but I don't really like asking people one on one, I kinda prefer just posting about it and seeing if anyone is interested.

Yeah this is my first real game, all the other games I made were just simple practice coding projects, that took me about 45 mins to make. Just little running and jumping things I used to practice programming.
Yeah it surprised me too that the lite version limits so many things. But it's 150$ for the pro version, I'll have to save up for that >.>
