I highly doubt it's what you had in mind, but based solely off of this comment I imagined dragons going into battle with gigantic magenta-colored cellos as weapons...possibly against a sweet orange-red sunset backdrop

I see a lot of what he takes being old, abused instruments that have been abandoned.
Things he can love and give attention to in private, objects which hold memories none would have otherwise been able to unearth.
But should there ever be a spirit or group of spirits who wanted these things, and to cherish them, he may very well be willing to give them up.
