Description As we all know, Aether, or Convexity, is the energy life force in the world of Spyro.
Light Aether can heal and give life, while Dark Aether will destroy and take away.
But Dark Aether is not evil; it keeps the balance, for good cannot be known without bad, and pleasure cannot be known without pain.
And most of all, life cannot be known without death.
But unlike Light Aether, the Dark is not meant to be harnessed.~

~~Elemental Evolution in Dragons~~

The Earth dragon is the oldest species in the world to rise to dominance
Before the other dragons, and before insect and mammalian peoples rose to significance, there was the mighty earth dragon.
Over the eons, this dragon type has kept its enormous, towering size, also making it the largest of the dominant species.

The first dragon type to diverge from the earth element was the magma dragon.
As early earth dragons split off and began journeying into other parts of the world, evolution took shape, and those next to evolve were the ones living around volcanoes.

During that time, earth dragons that went to the waters and seas gradually evolved into water dragons, creating the second divergence.

The third divergence was caused by earth dragons who took to the stormy peaks, always in the way of nature's brightest, most excitable element.
And thus, the electric dragon evolved.

Fire dragons were produced by magma dragons who migrated into hot temperatures that were less volcanic.
No longer needing so much strength, dark coloration or fire power, their magmaric prowess dwindled into the simple, archaic fire.

Water dragons sparked the emergence of ice by migrating to the North and South poles.
Evolution bred the proud and uncanny ice dragon, a creature of pure cold and beauty.

The last species to emerge from the elemental tree was the wind dragon.
Some electric dragons abandoned the stormy sections of the world in favor of less turbulent peaks and high-rises, where the air current was stronger, and flight was even easier to stabilize.
The fast, flighty electric dragon diverged into the even smaller, faster, more skilled air dragon.
Through it all, all elements of the tree lived in dragonkind, and no species was outdone or blended out.

~~Earth Dragons~~

This variant is identified by enormous height and weight, as well as scales with moderate-to-low reflectivity.
They possess large feet with long, blunt claws for digging.
Most also have curling horns and spiked tail tags.
Their shoulders and thighs are usually coated in large scale plates.

There is speculation that, as the ancestor of all dragons, the earth variant might have evolved from a dinosaur, but no one is for certain.

~~Magma Dragons~~

The magma, or "dark fire" dragon, can be recognized by long, smooth horns that curve slightly in pairs between two to four on each side of the skull.
Their bodies are dark hues ranging from grey and red to brown, and often lack in fins, spines and other decorative pieces.
Their wing thumbs and tail tags are oddly shaped and often jagged.
Their scales have low reflectivity.
This species is notorious for extreme resiliency, elemental power, and mystery.

Magma dragons typically have striking and unusually bright eye color that doesn't match their bodies.
They also possess the unique ability to see in low light, as they evolved in a dim, grungy setting, and had to do a lot of living in darkness.

~~Water Dragons~~

Water dragons are slightly smaller than magma and fire dragons.
They're identified most easily by horns that grow out and curl into unusual shapes, and often have tails resembling the lower portion of a fish or other sea animal.
Most sport fins on their faces and bodies, as well as scale plates on their shoulders, thighs, underbellies, and tails.
Their horns and underbellies are tan.

Scale reflectivity is moderate-to-high with many body scales having multiple hues.
Their body color can range to almost any shade of blue, and some sea-green shades.

Water dragons have a nictitating eyelid membrane to protect their eyes in the water, and their high-set, thin nostrils snap shut when submerged.
Like the magma dragon, they can see in low light and navigate in low visibility.
This variant can hold its breathe for over an hour if needed.

~~Electric Dragons~~

These are about the same size as the former.
Electric dragons tend to have tall, gently curving horns that are dark in coloration.
Their nails are a tad long and thin for traction on cliff sides.
This variant is oddly similar to the fire dragon in terms of head, dorsal and tail fins/spines, but the differences are easy to spot.
Their bodies range from different shades of yellow, light grey, white, and even some bright blues.
Scale reflectivity is moderate-to-high.

~~Fire Dragons~~

Fire dragons are most easily recognized by their zig-zagging, tan horns, and tan underbellies.
Almost all of this variant have the same horn shape, although they come in different sizes and have nuances to their shape.
This is considered an average-sized dragon, alongside the magma.
Their bodies range from pale yellow-orange to dark burnt orange.
Some may also come out as tan or sandy colors.
Scale reflectivity is moderate-to-high.

~~Ice Dragons~~

This variant has the highest scale reflectivity of any species.
Ice dragons have long, smooth horns that are usually dark.
They tend to have more decorative spines and fins, as well as very unique and varying tail tags.
Colors range from different light blues to white.
This species is the same size as their watery cousins.

~~Wind Dragons~~

This is the smallest dragon type, with moderate-to-high scale reflectivity.
All wind dragons have the same base layout of a solid body with the undersides of their wings, tail fins, and their back fins being colorful.
They all sport the same horn shape, tan, with tan underbellies.
Tail fin shapes tend to all be about the same shape as well, but there can be minor variations.
Body color ranges only from moderate grey shades to solid white, and nothing else.
The parts of their body that have color are iridescent and often are comprised of between three to five solid, identifiable colors.
Claws are the longest and sharpest of any dragon comparative to their body size, which they use to hang onto cliffs and to climb.
