Hm, this is starting to remind me of a certain, not-so well known manga I read back at school. A girl protagonist who was rings on takes one of them off to gain immense power, but also changes her gender of which she pretty much hates it so much to the point of her making her sick.
Then later after the first time you see this happen, one of the characters who saw her doing that called her "Man-Girl" and of course it pissed her off.
