I've been a big Sherlock Holmes fan since I was a kid, so I was apprehensive about the new film, but I really did enjoy it. Anyhoo, was in a bad mood today so decided to do something constructive. Robert Downey Jr. character of Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.About 2hr and, as always, painted freehand. Oil pastels, watercolor in Painter.
This is for Miss Adler, even though she stole my watch.

I'm like you. Been a fan of the books for years so when they announced the movie I was convinced they were going to destroy them - so much so that I didn't see the movie for about a month after it was released. I did end up enjoying it though.
Anyway, this is stunning! Love the colour and the detail. You've given him this funky mystic quality that is quite awesome.

Yeah it was the trailers that threw me off in the first place. It made me think they were trying to make him in to some sort of action hero... luckily I was wrong

Omgosh, haha, I went to his place too, years ago now, I was so excited and the funniest thing walking down the street some guy was dressed as Holmes in a cape and deerstalker, he was really tall and it was just so amazing, we followed him till he disappeared into a financial building just before 221B! lol. That was SO cool! ^^

If you ever go to Connecticut look up Gillette's Castle, he was the first actor to portray Holmes with the whole pipe.. i think the deerstalker look too, but mainly the crooked pipe (forget the name of it) because it was easier to recite his lines on stage with it. Conan-Doyle had said he was the best Holmes he'd seen. It's a neat place and Gillette had a room made up as an exact replica of Holmes' sitting rooms. I think they closed that room up now, sadly, but if you can find pics online it was very very neat!

oh awesome, I once did a paper for my forensic science class how Sir Arthur and his creation of Holmes was one of the first innovations in Forensic Science which is now used in crime investigations today.
