great pic You may be able to get that blur with Gimp software that I had talked about.

Nice use of the grayscale background to emphasize the main flower. This photo is very pleasing.For extra emphasis, you might want to experiment with a little extra blur in the background. If your aperture doesn't introduce enough bokeh you can try to blur in your photo manipulation software.

Thank you for the compliment, and the suggestion! I'm merely a hobbyist photographer without any real skills, only an eye for what I like, so any and all advice is appreciated! I'll see what I can do

That's ok, I'm a hobbyist photographer too... I just spent more time playing around and listening. You're doing great. Keep it up! An eye for what you like is a great way to start.
