SPECIES INFOMATION:

Gemtails are a race of felines that have gems on their foreheads, chests, and tail tips. They can also have gems in other places as well. Their gems carry their soul essence and if all gems are removed they die. However, if every gem but one is removed they will regrow over time but during this time they are very sick. If a gem is broken but not fully removed the gem will remain that way, whether it is chipped or snapped off. The prefer to live in caves and dark forests in groups called clans although they are known to live on their own. They can also live at beaches and in urban areas if they choose to. They are attracted to shiny and colorful objects left behind by humans, such as jewelry, bandanas, and even bottles. Gemtails have incredible strong tails and are known to pick up objects and young ones with their tail.

While they generally have brightly colored gems, they can be any color, although the color of their gems are never the same exact color as any other color on their body. The gem, however, can be a darker and lighter shade of any color on them.

Multi-colored gems can be obtained through breeding with the Rainbow Gemtail, Glade or another gem tail with multi colored gems. Also you can commission them or sometimes find them on adopts. Keep in mind that is is only a POSSIBILITY and you may not get a multi-colored gemmed Gemtail every time you breed.

Gemtails are either born, hatched from a gem, or very rarely come from a "fallen star' or meteorite. These Fallen Star Gemtails are rare and different from other Gemtails, so not many exist.

You may only breed gemtails with my permission and with other Gemtails. As the species expands their will be more freedom for the owners, as well as other breeds. If you have any ideas for the species, feel free to message me about it, as I love to hear other people's ideas.

Keep in mind that this is a CLOSED SPECIES. That means that you must commission or adopt them from me or the people I have permitted to make them. for those who can not afford the prices for customs, adopts will be cheaper and I will make free sheets, every once in a while.

Baby Gemtails:
Baby Gemtails are delicate little things, generally with a muted version of their gem color as their baby gems. As they grown, their gems will flake into the brilliant color they are are supposed to be. The flakes are similar to the rock Mica and are actually valuable to humans. They reflect very little, unlike the adult gems, so they do not attracts hostiles with the shine. Baby gemtails that are born of gems generally have their full colored gems are birth and sometimes come out full grown even, depending on the age of said gem and the depth of the gem when it's found. Gemtails that are born of a Fallen star are ALWAYS born full grown but the special breed it's self has trouble breeding with in it's own kind, thus cross breeding into original Gemtails. Their Extra Gems do not grown in until they are a year old unless they are on their elbow.

Adult Gemtails:
Male - Male Gemtails by nature are larger and have thicker tails and sharper gems for defense. Like lions, Males are more likely to be loners and are more likely to be aggressive if spotted by a human. They are slower than the females because of size but have massive paws to make up for the slower speed in brute strength.

Female - Female Gemtails are smaller by nature. Their gems are sharp but their tails are originally split down farther, allowing them to have a wider range of attack and carry more things. While males are more likely to be loners, females are more defensive and a fierce when challenged. They do not back down when young are involved. They will fight to the death for a kit.

Fallen Stars:
Fallen Stars are a mystery. They hatch from special meteorites that hit the earth. They always come out as adults and the only way for a pure kit to be born is by breeding two Fallens. Because of their rarity, they are hard to breed and it is less likely for two Fallen Stars to have kits then a Fallen and a normal Gemtail. Fallen Stars are still Gemtails, just a special off breed.

Lifespan:
Gemtails have a weirdly long life span. They are adults at 2 years old and can live thousands of years, unless killed. The oldest found one was three thousand years old and was bald and blind. He died shortly after being found.

Human Interaction:
They generally stray away from humans but are known to be rather friendly and cute pets. They are also hunted by humans for their valuable gems. When owned as pets, the gems are generally filed down so they do not accidentally hurt their owners. The filing does not hurt the gemtails. When an owner "dies", they are either sent to the pound or set free. If you do not wish to own your gemtail any longer please message me with the information and they shall be placed in the adoption center.

Origin:
Gemtails originate from eight Originals, all born of gems. Onyx, Ruby, Moon, Sun, Sapphire, Emerald, Storm, and Glade. They made the first clan of Gemtails called Starbound. They all remain alive today, the only found immortals of the species. Why they are immortals, no one knows nor dare to ask.
