The following is taken from Gear's final accounts of the universe:

"The whole of the universe was shaken when the Gateways shattered. It wasn't until the stars began to fall from the sky did the realization of what had happened strike every being deep in their hearts. In the following weeks, war broke out, as had been prophesied. Three factions arose to fight during these final days. Makuta would rise to lead the forces of darkness and corruption in a last ditch attempt to rule the universe before the final day's end. The Great Spirit, Mata Nui would in turn lead the forces of light to prevent darkness from ruling the end. A third faction would rise, led by the mad and tormented Karzahni. This group fought not against light or dark, but against the very end itself.
Like all wars, in the end this one was futile. On the last day of the war, the armies met on the upper lands of the Ancients. The largest battle ever witnessed in this universe. The colossi Mata Nui and Makuta fought hand to hand over the armies they led... ...The battle would end with the death of these two and the Traveler. The Great Red Star, life link for the Great Spirits, fell from the sky, extinguished, and so too did the colossi fall. In a fit of rage, Karzahni impaled the Traveler with his blade before fleeing into hiding, realizing that there would be no victory.
The armies dispersed and fled. Only to hopelessly wait for the end. The hulls of the fallen colossi now the only reminder of that great war, towering above the sand swept lands of the Ancients. Many have no hope, believing Destiny has forsaken them. Yet, for a few, there is hope in one prophecy that has yet to come to fruition. The Return of the Ancients."

Wow, what a wall of text! This is just a small piece of some of the Bionicle fan fiction I have been crafting over the past several years. This is one story universe where I have a definitive END. It doesn't get much more ended then by literally ending the universe. Seeing as destiny plays a huge role in my fan universe (not saying it doesn't in the official cannon) I found a way to end the story and universe in a rather fitting way by fulfilling a few destinies and brining it full circle with the whole "In the Time before Time, the Great Beings created the universe" beginning to the Bionicle storyline. I really hope to be able to share the full story soon some day.
