Well it's second form is supposed to be like the pots that snake charmers keep snakes in. It's hea pops out of its coiled body haha.
The spikes are just purely for looks, honestly, it weas missing something and the thorns seemed appropriate for the time being. But it adds a little more to the secondary "poison" type.

This is actually the first time I'e seen a firesnake, and you did a great job with it.
However, I've not heard of this Gen 6 Starters being based on the chinese zodiac? I'm confused as to what you mean.

not gen6 starters just all the fire starters thus far have been animals of the chinese zodiac

Counting Cyndaquil as a mouse/rat, as opposed to a Porcupine or Enchinda as most people consider it?
And Charmander as a dragon as opposed to a lizard/dinosaur/dragon thing? I guess you'd be right then, because certainly from Gen III onwards they have been.

charizard is dragon, typhlosion is rat, blaziken is rooster, infernape is monkey, emboar is pig, and fennekin is dog.

Fair, at least if you go by the final evolutions- though Fennekin's final evo is still very 'fox' like compared to dog likes.

and although i'm not one to really care, i can't help but think how overdone fire snakes are, i still love the idea though and think it's fun to try your own spin on it, i do it all the time, like i said it doesn't bother me

Well as of gen6 all starters thus far have been based on animals of the chinese zodiac. While the Dragon, Rat, Rooster, Monkey, Pig, and Dog have all been done officially that leaves the Snake, Rabbit, Horse, Tiger, Ram, and Ox still left to be done.
There have been a lot of fire snakes done, this is true, maybe it has something to do with that fact.
