Sharp brown eyes stare blankly into a mirror. Or they would seem blank to any one who looked at them. But in reality her mind was working at a breakneck pace. She glared at the dark rings under her eyes from endless, sleepless nights. Sleep. Could you sleep if there were a million voices buzzing in you head? But they weren't the kind of voices that one would expect; they weren't the kind telling her to go jump off a bridge, or to go hurt someone. No, they were more crafty than that; they whispered constantly, telling her things that she'd never believe untrue.
"You're fat, you're ugly, you're stupid." they whispered to her harshly, "you don't deserve to live, you don't deserve to love. Why can't you see how much of a burden you are to everyone?" Slowly the voices got to her, breaking past her defenses, and every morning she would sit in front of the mirror, choosing her personality for the day like any other girl would choose an outfit, and making up her lies as other girls made up their face. Each, and every day was a living hell for her.
Slowly, as slowly as a glacier moves, her friends abandoned her, only strengthening what the voices whispered to her. But she didn't see that it was her who had pushed her friends away. And now she stands here, staring into that damned mirror letting it slip from her fingers inch by excruciating inch, only to disappear beneath a glossy surface below her. Before letting her fingers slacken from the railing with cars buzzing by her, she sent out a final prayer:
"God forgive me." Within an instant she was enveloped by the welcoming embrace of cold water. As she sighed out her final breath, a ringing laugh filled her conscious. But a benevolent laugh it was not.
