These days are like a midnight clearing,
Open to the stars above,
Look here now and look forever,
A view much like the morning dove,
We climb these hills and look for summer,
Sunshine now forever away,
Guided by the moonlight hollow,
So we will not be cast astray,
Still we hike for miles on end,
What we want is still so far,
Days are getting colder yet,
But clouds have not covered every star,
I look up to the seas of beauty,
Know not of what’s to come,
Many have tried for this and failed,
But still too good to pass up for some,

Less than a fraction there and still no light,
Night is cold and midnight dreary,
Legs grow stiff and feet grow heavy,
Hands grow cold and minds grow weary,
Days and weeks and still no sign,
But we will not quit, not now,
We’re farther than anyone was before,
And forward to the end we vow,
Snow fall dreams have filled our minds,
Put on gloves, jacket and cap,
Drudge on, climb up one step closer,
We feel our way ‘cause there have no map,
Climb the mountains they grow taller still,
Catch a breath and rest at the peak,
Hearts warm with the last push-pull,
A sigh so full not one can speak,

Whistled tunes freeze off my lips,
Set in mind, ready will,
What laid ahead now at my feet,
Looking forward, ready still,
This love I feel warms my spirit,
Exhaustion fades from me whole,
I climb up the last mountain,
This journey surely took its toll,
But I found summer where I knew it,
I found sunshine just right here,
I’ll never leave, never abandon,
But having it leave is what I fear,
Now I look at the stars so bright,
Wake up from the midnight dream,
Get ready for this journey to happiness,
It’s more real than it all may seem.
