Description
        My fur ruffled in the night wind as I scented the nearby prey, and I shook myself in anticipation of the hunt. Trotting over the rise, I paused at the top to stare at the silver orb hanging in the inky sky. I howled a serenade to the moon goddess, Luna, before continuing my silent stalking. No sound was to be heard but the faint, muffled padding of my paws on the white snow.

I entered the forest just as the snow began falling ever so gently from the banking clouds. Still following the strengthening scent, I found myself encroaching upon a deer foraging for food in the drifts upon the ground. I crouched down low, my white fur blending perfectly with the surroundings.

As the deer lowered its head to nibble at the bit of grass it had exposed, I stole closer. I froze immovable in my tracks when it suddenly lifted its head to peer in my direction, but it calmly looked away after a careful inspection. I crept closer until I was only feet from the unsuspecting creature, coiled my muscles, and sprang at it.

The deer, startled, turned to flee as I flew at it, but it was not quick enough. I landed upon it and sank my teeth and claws deep into its hide. It bucked wildly, but could not free itself of my iron-jawed grip. I almost had it down when, in desperation, the deer reached back and clamped its teeth on my ear, drawing blood.

I started in my bed and awoke, gasping for air. As the adrenaline in my veins slowly dissolved, I calmed, realizing it was just a dream. I lay back down, but was troubled by a pain on my ear. As I reached to touch it, my fingers came away wet and stained with blood.
