Description Yay! A professional-looking character study for Lorisnail! I'm quite pleased with how the color-scheme turned out. Another piece for my portfolio. However, I'm taking a break this coming week to work on Halloween stuff. I'm proud of myself for getting this done so fast.

Lorisnail and Beetlebird are going to star in a children's book I'm gonna write and illustrate one of these days...

This is sooo utterly adorable! The big eyes are heart-melting! I love the little creature's design; the snail shell and the lori really fit together like a real creature instead of just a lori with a random shell on its back. I love how the fur pattern extends to the shell, and I especially love the little gal's eyestalks!
And all the poses and expressions are wonderful! Especially 8 and 9 and 11 because they show how the little critter gets in and out of the shell; but really they are all amazing!

Thank you!!! I worked so hard on this character it was disheartening when I only got rejections from the children's book publishers that I had submitted my portfolio to. Your kind words really make that spot of disappointment on my heart fade! I love the snail shell and putting it in unexpected places but making it look plausible. I'm so happy you think it "fits." Those are my favorite poses too. Thank you again!

Btw, I'm now working on a felted version of the Lorisnail with a paper clay shell. We'll see how it turns out... But I'm hoping it sparks my creative juices again so I can try the publishers once again.

I'm sorry I couldn't answer before. We were talking about the wonderful book you are creating.
It's no coincidence that we liked the same things about it. You drew it how you loved it instead of how you thought I would want to see it. Works better for both, right? (:

I had a writing block the other day. Now I just pretend that I know exactly that Aaron is 18 and black and trans male and desperate and a billion other things I'm not. All I have to do is express his senses as concretely as I can; if I want it to be clearer, I know exactly how and where to look.
Suddenly it's really easy.

Like when you pretend that Loris fit in shells. I believe you, because I see your beauty in it. Maybe I get it comically wrong though, who nose.

The Dog!!! (Hahaha!) it's my running gag, sorry.

Thanks! I don't think it'd be a good idea to cook it, especially since it's an endangered species.

I'll get around to drawing the little lorisnail eating something sometime.

oh, how cute!

if I'd read a book with this guy in it when i was a little younger I'd definitely have spent at least a few hours pretending to watch him crawl around on a houseplant. ...I'll probably end up doing it anyway.
