Description Back when I was first exploring snonkeys (snail-monkeys) I showed my brainstorm sketches to my brother and when he saw the tamarin monkey-snail sketch he said, "I like that. Draw that for me." So I did.

Pencil, about 8x5 in.
I used a bunch of photo references for the tamarin monkey and then a garden snail shell from my collection (I've been collecting them for a couple years now) for the shell.

*EDIT: I noticed the quality of the image was bad, so here's a better version.

I love tamarins, and snails are cute - never thought of combining them though! Great drawing, the mix is adorable!

Oh yes! I painted two tamarins a couple years ago: A lion maned, and a gold maned tamarin *see "animal paintings" subgallery*

I really like this picture! i love Tamarin monkeys and i think that the expression on it's face, especially in the eyes gives it a real life like quality.

Do your shells crumble easily? I took a dead snail (I found it dead do not worry) home one day and it just crumbled in my pocket which was sad as I was going to use it in art.

I love this piece, I think that the face came out really cool, especially the long hair. The snail shell looks amazing and the textures on it are beautiful too as well as the stripes. I really love the way you shaded the fur as well. All around it is beautiful and so glowy somehow.

Yes, the shells are somewhat fragile. It depends slightly on the condition of the snail when it left the shell behind--a young (a sad occurrence ) or malnourished snail leaves an extremely thin shell while a full grown healthy one can leave a very sturdy shell that could probably survive a trip in a pocket. Do the shells look like the shells my snails have? I'm just curious to know the different kind of garden snails that live in the US.

At my friend's house they have a wonderful garden, which I'm sure is protected with some kind of anti-snail and slug mechanism, but I found tons of large really sturdy shells lying around there like a snail graveyard--or a snail-obsessed artist's dream, haha. They were all pale; perhaps sun-bleached, I don't know. I thought it was really surprising that they were able to form such healthy shells. It makes me wonder how effective the anti-snail stuff could be.

Thank you! This one was harder than either of the first two so I'm especially pleased with how it came out.

Aww...maybe it was malnourished then. It was of medium size and it did look like yours. I found it when I was in AZ for awhile and I know a family member from there gets a lot of snails that I think kind of look like yours.

Oh wow, that must have been so magical and cool too find. Haha who knows...I feel bad for when people actually kill them, it always made me sad since I was little and I would keep things like slugs and tomato horn worms as temporary pets.
