Description
A gift to
who want me to draw Mario, Peach, Luigi, Rosalina and Daisy as Italian Partisans in WW2, since it was her idea, and because she liked my Mario artworks set in World War II. It was very difficult to recreate the Italian scenery in the background, and I model "Monte Giorgia" the monastery after Monte Cassino (one of my favorite battles of the Italian campaign in World War II, where my home "New Zealand" was involved in an attempt to capture the monastery from the Germans after the Yanks and we suffered heavy losses before the Polish took over and captured the monastery).
ITALY, 1944, The "Mushroom Kingdom Corps" were sent to Italy by the "S.O.E. (the Special Operations Executive)" to help the allies and it Italians Partians capture the monstery of Monte Giorgia in the Gustav line, between Anzio and Monte Cassino in the leading up to liberate Rome.
Following Italy's surrender to the Allies on September 3rd 1943, the Germans forces were sent to Italy to stop the allies advancing, after they were completely shocked and alarmed, to hear their italians allies were seeking an armistice, and were beginning to change sides with the British, Americans, Free French, Polish, Canadians, New Zealanders and Indians troops, to help fight and get rid of the German invaders and to overthrow their backed Fascist oppressors the "Italian Socialist Republic" (a group of Italians soldiers who are still loyal to Mussolini after his overthrow).
To stop the german invaders, the Allies began helping a group of Italian Partisans (partigiani), living in small rural towns, and villagers, by senting aids, supplies and weaponly behind enemy lines.
These Anti-Fascist partisans group called the "National Liberation Committee (Comitato di Liberazione Nazionale) " were known for their used on guerrilla warfare tatics, to help ambush and harassed the Germans and Italian Fascist in German occupied part of northern Italy, and to avoid getting captured and massacred by the Germans.
About 70,000-80,000 were recuited in the Partisans at strength, in their hope to free their homeland against Mussolini and his fascists supporters, for their defeat and loss in the war, and for all their hardship they had faced against Mussolini 's Iron Fist for 22 years.
Between 1943 and 1945, over 35,828 and another 32,000 off the Italian Partisan fighters, were killed or executed by the Germans and their Italian Fascist Forces, in reprisals during the dark years of German occupation in Italy.
The Partisans finally got their revenge in April, when Mussolini and his mistress were captured and executied at Giulino, Mezzegra, in what became known today in Italy as "Festa della liberazione" (Liberation Day).
The war in Italy, finally came to an end on May 2nd 1945, just six days before Germany's Surrender.

Great work here! The poster feels like you're there with them as they progress on wards to the monastery.Β
Interesting fact: Throughout 1943 (prior to siding with the Allies), parts of the Italian government were planning on kicking Mussolini out as leader because the military was taking major loses on a lot of fronts and the public seeing that the friendship with Germany was a disaster and wanted out of the war.

Bene! Ottimo! Finally someone who give some importance to the nationality of our favorite plumberΒ Β
Being an italian, i can say that this artworkΒ perfectly resembles those posters during Mussolini's propaganda in all details; last but not least, the jackets are something to give an oscar for how much they are precise Β

Oh thank you so much for everything I did. It's one of my only attempt to focus on the Italians, changing side with the Allies against Nazism and Fascism in your home due to my interest in World War II. And yes those jackets are so perfect for them in this era.
