Actually, to shead the light on the differences of Silent Hill 1/3 and Silent Hill 2;
Harry and Heather's stories follow some crazy cult trying to birth a "God" to bring them into paradise.
James is running through a world full of self-created manifestations of wrongs in his life; Seen with his adultry ( Manequin enemy being made of nothing but two pairs of women's legs ), and "The Tormentor" (sp), or better known canonly as Pyramid Head, which is manifested from James torturing himself.
The storylines, although combined ( Jame's missing person's case being mentioned by Douglas in the car ride in SH3 ), the two stories have completely different views of "Silent Hill", so to speak.
I admit, 3 wasn't as good as 1.. 3 Kind of depresses me a bit.. but, it's one of my favorites, and the Protagonist has an Orange shirt. So I love her. <:

Silent Hill 3 was the best Silent hill game in my opinion.
Followed by Silent Hill 2, which had the best music.

I haven't actually played all of them to tell you the truth, just the 2nd and 3rd, and I disliked the 3rd for how comparatively lacking in depth it was compared to the 2nd. Heck of a lot scarier though.

It was mostly because they had a different storyline. Since Silent Hill 3 follows Silent Hill directly, it's significantly different from Silent Hill 2, which had the sadder line because that was the theme.
When you've played every Silent Hill game, you tend to get allhe sbolism haha ^u^'

I didn't play the first game, but I did watch someone else play it to the end, and I have to say I find the whole evil cult chestnut to be abundantly silly even if it wasn't badly done. The first Silent Hill was better than the third in one respect because it was far more about the human element, a father's desperate terrifying journey to find his missing daughter against which the whole cult thing is just a backdrop. Silent Hill 3 made of the mistake of making it actually important. But t wasn't a fatal mistake whatsoever; it's still a pretty epic game, one of my all time favorites.
