Description This is a really old flame that I never released, mostly because I didn't like the colors . . . they're still a little flat, but if I try to add too many, the spirals end up too messy. So I can deal with a little flatness. For now, anyway. I might post another version if I figure the colors out.

Inspiration comes from this song: [link]

I'm not too crazy about the video on that but the song is the right one.

As far as I know, flatness could be remedied with a bit of a bloom effect or some other blurry overlays.
But I guess in this case, it'd lose that precious crisp look, eh?

It's very good as it is, really.

I'll keep this version up, then. Thanks for adding your two cents!

Nice, I like the flatness as well, gives the whole piece a kind of shattered mirror feel to it that adds personality to the picture. Sorry I'm late to the game but it's nice to see you posting fractals again ^_^

Glad to know that you like it too.

And it's fine that you're late to the game. It feels good to be posting fractals again.

Hey, so I don't know if you knew this, you probably didn't but my boyfriendish person lives in LR now and I've been meaning to come by and visit you two sometime when I'm up there visiting him, but I don't really have a good way of getting in touch with you except through Michael. I'll try to message you through something next time I'm around though.

a nice geometric abstract. i think i rather like the flatness too actually.

Good to know. Different strokes for different folks methinks. I'm torn as to how to improve it (or whether it is improved) with more depth, so I'll continue experimenting. Thanks for commenting!

Pretty. I would use some layered distortion filters for more flow.

I'll try that too Any specific ones you recommend to help me get started? I've never actually used any before.

try rotating it about 10 to 15 degrees counter clockwise and look at it.

Looks better that way. Got lots to work on with this fractal.

This has to do with creating lines of eye travel. It's all personal preference of course, but rotating it will give it some interest, because it causes the eye to travel in a diagonal path rather than straight vertical...

Just trying to help!

Makes sense. Thank you for giving me your rationale. It makes it easier to apply your advice.

Well, it goes back to what you said, when you said it looked better when you rotated it. I was just giving you details as to why.

This is a very cool, but very flat piece of work, I have to admit. I love the color scheme and the sharpness is great. I do wish there were a way to get more depth into the piece though, maybe even if you layered the flame somehow. But, it isn't bad.

fanficbug In reply to Phoenix-22 [2009-01-18 18:44:08 +0000 UTC]

That's a really great idea. I think I'll try layering another version of itself, and if that doesn't work, then I'll try finding another suitable fractal.

And I agree, it isn't bad . . . but it could be better.

Nice! I like the sharpness of it. That's not something you see too often with fractals.
