Description This is a photo of a Tiger that I took at The Wildlife Heritage Foundation Big Cat Sanctuary.

It's so easy, when spending time photographing these big cats, to forget that they are predators and not overly large tabby cats. But every now and then they'll jump at the bars of the cage and remind you, especially when the keeper is waving a bit of meat above your head. ^^

Comments are always appreciated.

Thanks Martin.

It's in Kent. It's a private place, but I think they do lots of different days that the public can come, or you can go on a photography course like I did. Their webbie comes up if you look it up on google.

I love the shot Jo, and I totally agree. Although Ive never had a piece of meat waved above my head to tempt a tiger...

Thanks Max. Hehe, yes, I was wondering why the tiger was making a bee-line for me, I look up to see a nice chunk of meat over my head. ^.^

I totally agree! They really make it easy to forget that they are dangerous.
But who wouldn't want to pet them when seeing this innocent look in their eyes?

Hehe. Yeah, sometimes they rub themselves up against the side of the bars and it's so tempting to just reach out a finger and stroke them, but if you did you'd go home with one less finger then you arrived with. ^.^

I guess that would happen. Also it's hard to believe somehow.
Is it possible to get so close to the tigers there? So that you can pet them?

Yeah, it happened to one volunteer at this place, although she had blood on her finger from where she had been feeding them tip-bits of meat, her phone rang and she lost concentration and next thing the tip of her finger was gone.
Yeah, I took this series of shots at a photography day, so when I went I got special access to the enclosures so that only one set of bars was between us and the big cats. You could have reached through and stroked them, although it’s not recommended.

Such soulful looking eyes! Great capture! And quite right too about the little reminders they give us about being more than supersized tabby cats.
