Description 5/24/11 EDIT

Finally, a render that does it justice , courtesy of ~lyc and chaotica.

3/19/2011 EDIT
Now that I have a new computer, I was able to render this at 30k. Usually 10k vs. 30k is an imperceptible visual difference, but this image is SO prone to grain that the Quality/Density actually needs to be that high. You can see a comparison here: [link]

---

Follow fire guidelines/restriction, people. Because I do not like it when my relatives have to evacuate their cabins, when my family watches the news every night to find our if our own cabin has been incinerated, or when ash falls from the sky.

All three of those have happened to me, on separate occasions.

Okay, technical issues... this was rendered at 6000 quality and it is still! too! grainy!

Any recommendations for how to fix this are welcome, but you should know that this already took 6 hours to render, and that was overnight so I didn't have to use my computer for anything else.

My poor laptop. It is so abused. :sigh:

Also, I had to render this three times. The first time, Apo crashed when it was almost done. The second time, my computer's became unplugged and I didn't notice, and shut itself down when it was almost done.

Download view is bigger.

ETA: My poor laptop is even more abused, guys.

Pure rendering time: 2 days 7 hours 30 minutes 22.89 seconds
Total time: 3 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes, 57.13 seconds

I re-rendered it at 2.517 zoom and 10000 quality. There is still some grain, but I think it looks much better this time.

The flames seem to be firing a frantic dance across a colourful slab of granite. Well done !

Ooo... this is gorgeous. I think my favourite part is the blue; strange on a piece about fire, I know. But it evokes perfectly a sense of the sky through the flames and clouds of smoke, and brings out a contrast that emphasizes the rest.

/my two cents

Glad you like it and thanks for the fave. And yes, I specifically added the blue to keep the fractal from being too monotonous and to be a bit "smokier."

The blur 'trip' sorta hurts and I know how you feel I would try PS as last resort and see what happens
Otherwise - it's burning hot

My plan is to re-render it in 7X at 10,000 quality. Anything that still looks crappy, I will try to fix in Gimp. Might take a while though...

Hmmmm...you know - the quality helps, when you have a lot of complex details
I'n not sure it will do much with blur ....just the way the the variation works

Try this - duplicate the xfrom, which has the blur on it, it should make the pixels
denser for render (you may have to adjust the brightness after this, but that's the
only trick it might help)

That's the thing, there isn't actually any blur on this! It is linear, cross, epispiral, and waves2.

O_o it's epispiral then (plus you have cross) it likes having pre-blur

How do you like the re-render?

It's looking sharper
bludy grain you know I have few of those in my gallery and I was going to tell you ...that grain will still be around

You an Artist Make the 'grain' work for you - when wood burns there is smoke and particles of ash floating in the air
This is my take on it - and Im sticking to it

Lol, I agree. In the first one, the grain was weird and ugly. In this one, even though there is still some grain, it actually looks a lot better and a lot more purposeful.
