The final render took about 5 hours, but there were a few preliminary renders that were rejected because they didn't quite do what I was trying to achieve.

It's difficult to say how long this took - I do these renders in what little spare time I have, andΒ I will sometimes work on and off for a couple of weeks on an environment. I spent the best part of a day rendering different atmospheres until I was happy with the result.
